Hello everyone,
I thought I might move this discussion to a new thread...
so, the reference with the recent discussions here actually refers to the discussions on the hanging for some reason thread and not this one I just started...

Thanks for any assistance, guidance, or helpful advice... until that time... Earl J.

Hello everyone,
Santa might deliver an Alienware i7 920 64-bit machine for me...
I have a Vegas 9 upgrade waiting to get installed...
I'll have to install the original Vegas from which I upgraded, and then install the upgrade.
1 - Does it matter that the original purchase was a 32-bit program, and I now want to install the 64-bit version?
2 - Will it be worth saving the aggravation and simply purchase the full version of V9?
3 - With the recent discussions here [on the original thread where I posted this message], W7 should pose no problems if I use the machine only for video editing and have no other programs installed/running correct?
4 - Once again, will it save any aggravation if I go back to Vista 64-bit?
5 - From the discussions here, either V9B or V9C are 64-bit versions, yes?

Thanks for any feedback...

Until that time... Earl J.

Hello again,
it appears for #5 that each version is capable of 32- or 64-bit operation. Is that correct?
So the version number or letter has nothing to do with 64-bit operation; each version comes in 32- and 64-bit flavors... cool... as far as I can tell...

When you purchase Vegas Pro, you get both for the one price. If you purchased a Movie Studio version, you'd need to upgrade to Pro.

2 - Will it be worth saving the aggravation and simply purchase the full version of V9?

If you're on Movie Studio or Pro 8, I would upgrade to 9 for the 64-bit version.

3 - With the recent discussions here [on the original thread where I posted this message], W7 should pose no problems if I use the machine only for video editing and have no other programs installed/running correct?

The most current version of Pro 9 lists Windows 7 on the compatibility list.

4 - Once again, will it save any aggravation if I go back to Vista 64-bit?

I believe most people will tell you that Win7 is better than Vista.

5 - From the discussions here, either V9B or V9C are 64-bit versions, yes?

All versions of 9.0 (initial release, a, b, and c) are all available in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions.

I'm not sure that it matters much if other programs are installed. I have used about 52GB of drive C with dozens of installed programs, and Vegas doesn't seem to be any worse than when it was my sole app on Win 7 64-bit. Because of the well-known problems, I edit in 8c and render in 9c - playing to the strengths of each. I edit a little almost every day (although I've only pulled up one long-form project and worked on it - a 1-hr., 50-min. project at present). So far, so good - Vegas seems to be rock-solid with the 8c/9c combo.

Thanks for the quick response guys...
it is very helpful as well...

The other forum I mentioned indicated some problems with driver conflicts and such...
but your input has eliminated those concerns...
I've used 4.0 through 8.0 without problems (well, except self-imposed learning difficuties - we all know how that goes... grin )

I'm sending my letter off to the North Pole straight-away. . . (wink)

When Santa does bring the machine, how do I select installing the 64-bit version?
I imagine it would be part of the installation process, correct?
I don't remember seeing that sort of thing in the previous installations I've made;
but then again, I don't remember much beyond what I had for breakfast...
the sad part is I don't normally eat breakfast. . . . argh!

Just go to download of Vegas.
In the drop-down list you can select different versions like 32/64 and french/german/chinese language etc.
They are all activated with the same code (see "My Software" under "My Account" above).

Have fun.

Aloha Earl, no need to install the original Vegas. Just install the new one and use your new key.

Hello Jerry,
well, that is good news. . . will it permit me to choose 32- or 64-bit?

I'm really expecting it to fly. . . well, compared to the walking I'm doing now, just getting off the ground will be a tremendous improvement. . . (grin)

Thanks for the tip. . . nice to hear from you. . . good holidays to y'all ...

Until that time... Earl J.

Earl, just download the latest build(s) from the SCS download page. I have found it necessary to run both the 32bit and 64bit versions. And no need to install from the original version 9 CD that I am aware of.

At the moment with 9c and AVCHD, 32bit is the better of the two. There are some definite issues with the 64bit version. Also, you may have plugins that only work with the 32bit version.
