What was your processor before? Unless you upgraded from a processor that's simular in speed (ie AMD XP 3200 or 64 3200 or the first FX) you probley won't. To see s noticable speed increse you normaly need to upgrade more then 1 step up (about 3-4).

Take look at Tom's Hardware guide. They runs lots of benchmarks against lots of processors, one of which is MainConcept MPG encoding.

First of all, 64 bit is meaningless unless you are running a 64 bit OS. Secondly, as has been pointed out, processor speed is by far the biggest factor in rendering speed so that is what you should be looking at.

And thirdly, even if you are running a 64 bit operating system, Vegas is not a 64 bit application and will receive no direct benefit from running on a 64 bit processor.
(see this thread for benchmarks: http://mediasoftware.sonypictures.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?MessageID=269770&Replies=12&Page=0

Lastly, video encoding is almost pure number crunching so I doubt there will be a massive benefit to render speed even when Vegas is recompiled for 64 bit. I see more of the benefit going towards multitasking and time line performance while editing a complex project with lots of stuff going on at once, but we'll have to wait and see.

I moved from a Pentium 2.5 to the 64 3400+. MS will eventually release a 64 bit OS, who knows what apps will be ready... I was just curious if Sony was working on something. Thanks for the inputs.

As an interesting side note, Avery Lee has been working on a 64bit version of his VirtualDub tool here

I wonder what it would take to convince Sony to release a Vegas 64-bit preview the way Microsoft is doing with Windows XP 64-bit.

They could limit it's use to owners of Vegas 5 serial numbers.

Obviously some things wouldn't work until the OS is completely finished, but we could play around with things a little to get a feel for what the 64-bit world will offer.
