Much too vague of a description. Does it stutter on playback? Or is it only as your capturing and monitoring? Describe your computer. How much RAM, video card, how your capturing (converter or video card), are you transfering VHS tapes, and any other information that may help us figure out your problem.

I am capture via firewire. i have used multiple cameras all the same problem.
I have plenty of harddrive space. 1.4 anthlon/512ram/2 harddrives
Its studders every 6 or 7 seconds, even after I capture and watch from the time line.

Thanks for responding

Did it ever work? Is this something that just started happening? Can you describe the stutter? This sounds like an unusual problem.
toyman wrote on 1/1/2005, 12:30 PM
It has never done this. When i connect the firewire it runs normal. Then it will studder consistently every 7 seconds. I defragged the drive, changed cameras, reinstalled vegas,.........not sure what else to do.

This is a new one for me. I've never heard of a consistent stutter. Are you using a pre-made computer like a Dell or Gateway or something along that line? You may have to wait for somebody that's much more experienced than me for this one. Also, be sure to turn off all firewalls and anti-virus programs and anything that you don't need running in the background, but you probably already know that.

Thanks anyway I am going to dig deeper in my computer. Do you think it may have anything to do with my firewire cable or firewire card? I am thinking that if it is consistent it is either memory or harddrive.....I lost...

Does Vidcap report dropped frames?
I've had this problem with PCs that barely have enough oomph, disabling network connections and other unneeded processes fixed it. Worst one was uStuffs SQL Server, it runs about every 10 seconds looking for something to serve even after I deleted all the databases, took a bit of regedit to finally kill it.

Your description is not quite doing it for me either. I cannot quite understand what is happening and when. Is this happening WHILE you are capturing - or after you capture and when you are playing the video back?

Just in case.... perhaps you are experiencing the AGE OLD problem related to certain firewire chipsets in certain external enclosures. Check out the following post Frequent Freeze while previewing video

The solution (for me anyway) was to use a different firewire enclosure.

No it doesn't even no it is dropping the frame.

The glitch is shown both in preview and on the timeline.

i am not running on a external drive either.
B.Verlik wrote on 1/1/2005, 1:07 PM
How about any connections with USB. I have a scanner that I have to literally unplug, or it keeps sending info back to my computer every few seconds.

I have a external drive connected to my pc but I do not write to it during capture and it has never caused me any trouble before. Could you explain your problem
B.Verlik wrote on 1/1/2005, 1:19 PM
It's been a long time and I'll probably forget some detail. I bought a scanner about a year ago and I installed it with the software discs that came with it. Well there seemed to be some kind of exchange between the computer and the scanner every few seconds, which seemed to screw up my video editing. I discovered it right away and just unplugged the scanner, except when I need to use it, and disabled the extra features in the software. I have an older Microsoft OS and I turn off everything (when you press ctrl, alt & Delete to see what's running) except 'Systray' and 'explorer' (and I still see my CPU usage jumping from about 15% to 50%) I stay off the internet and don't do anything else with the computer when capturing except stare at the walls (and screen). Now answer me this: Did your computer ever capture without a problem?
