Use track motion.

Proud owner of Sony Vegas Pro 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 & 13 and now Magix VP15&16.

Portrait...it's longer from top to bottom than left to right. It takes up the whole screen from top to bottom, but it has black to the left and to the right. I simply want to move it flush with the right side of the screen...that's it. However, when I choose "Event Pan/Crop" and try moving it, it either disappears off into the black if I try moving it or it zooms in or out, which I don't want.

Pan/Crop won't do it - think of this way: Pan/Crop is window on top of your event.

Track Motion - the little blue icon (hover over it) in the track header - allows you to move the event itself withing the frame.

Actually Pan/Crop will do this quite nicely, as long as you change the aspect ratio to "match output" first. The problem is that you can't use it to merely pan without cropping, and it defaults to cropping to the shape of the original image. You have to change it to crop to the output shape, and then you can pan as desired.
