768x576 square pixel PAL

I Guys, I have been successfully using Vegas to produce videos of simulated footage using a series of bitmaps simulating the frames (25 fps). The bitmaps (frames) are generated by my own simulation software. There is pixel noise on these frames which I need to preserve. I have produced very successful results using the PAL DV codec, both in terms of play back quality (the compression artefacts are not imediately obvious) and size/efficiency (easily playable on my laptop using media player). However, I now need to render to 768x576 25 fps. The PAL DV codec appears to be fixed at 720x576 pixels. Which other codec should I use that will give me the qualities of Vegas DV codec but at a 768x576 resolution?

Thanks for your help

I am not shure but I dont think you can use any non DV complient resolutions with the DV codec.

OK so what other codec with what settings should I use that will get me similar results.

Thanks

it depends on what your desired media will be, I think MPEG-2 can be made to accomodate this resolution, and maybe one of the Mjpeg codecs in QT. There are several other codecs which will support the unstandard resolution, but I dont remember their names. Perhaps someone else has some other ideas.

The media is essentially pc playback. The problem with mpeg2 is that ther are too many compression artefacts. I need to preserve the pixel to pixel variations (the noise) as much as possible. I was able to do this sufficiently with the Vegas DV codec but not in the format I need. Uncompressed avi's are also no good as the files I produce are too large and wont play satisfactorly on my Laptop

768x576x25 is pretty hefty, but if you have a fast system (proc, drives) you may be ok. Have you tried QT with the animation compressor? Windows media or real at a high bitrate?

Thanks I will try those and let you know.. Mark
