8.1 Registration problem on Vista 64-bit

New to forum, but not to Vegas, and I have what is likely a pretty narrowly-defined problem. I'm running Windows Vista UItimate 64-bit on a new machine. All hardware drivers are up to date. 8.0c and DVD architect 5.0 installed and registered just fine. I can run and use both.

However, while 8.1 *installed* fine, when I tried to run it the registration utility just stops with an error -- something to effect of not having elevated privileges to continue. I'm running as an administrator, and I even selected "Run as Administrator." I originally installed 8.1 with User Access Control (UAC) on, then uninstalled/reinstalled with UAC off, then uninstalled/reinstalled agains with UAC on. I always have admin privileges. No matter what, the registration utility always stops and my only choice is to close it.

Seems like a Windows issue, but for what's it worth, I'm running a Q9550 on a Gigabyte x48 MOBO. All drivers are up to date -- I updated them before I installed any software, including Vegas and DVDA).

I know this is a pretty narrow problem topic, but can anyone help? I'm really frustrated.

Thanks.

When the registration menu is viewed did you check the bottom box that says I understand everything?

JJK, I don't believe I got that far (I'm away from my editing PC, so can't double check at the moment), but I will check again. Thanks for the suggestion.

During 8.1 *installation*, I certainly checked the correct boxes for the EULA, etc. So far so good.

For subsequent *registration*, by contrast, I never saw a menu or box therein to check. After clicking on the 8.1 executable, I was stopped short by a large box stating that my user privileges might have to be elevated in order to proceed (again, I'm logged on as admin). I clicked "Next" or "OK", and that's when Vista popped up with a box stating that the Sony Registration Utility had an error. End of story.

I'll try again and look for such a menu. On a parallel thread, PLS identified a MOBO driver conflict. On a different forum entirely, I was counseled to simply reinstall Vista and not even touch UAC, which was identified there as the #1 suspect.

Thanks.
