8.1 upgrade_can't install

skin wrote on 2/25/2009, 5:51 AM
Saw a post about this already but have not found it after several searches. My laptop will not install the 8.1 upgrade. It gets to the end and then I get a message:
...content.IE5\89MZWP2R\vegaspro81_x64[1].exe is not a valid Win32 application
I tried it at home and then at work with the same result
Can someone please suggest a possible solution?

You may have a corrupt download.
Grab the file again and try another install.

edit: you are running a 64 bit OS, aren't you?

It is an 18 month old laptop using XP pro
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T7100 @ 1.80GHz
I would have to do some research to know more

I have tried twice to download the upgrade: from home and then the office, with the same result?

8.1 is the 64 bit version of Vegas and, as such, requires a 64 bit OS (Vista) to operate.

It is not suprising that users may make this mistake. It is not a very well labeled piece of software.

OK - so I guess the 8.1 upgrade is only for VISA?

No. Vista also comes in 32-bit and 64-bit versions. 8.1 is for the 64-bit version of Vista.

as far as functionality goes, 8.1 is a step or two behind 8.0c. You should stick with 8.0c.

It's my understanding that if you are running an off-the-shelf license of 32-bit Vista you can get a 64-bit installation disk from MS. Doesn't apply to OEM licenses, I think.

Nope, it will work on XP too - just has to me 64 bit version. I have XP64 and it works great on it.

Let's not give people the wrong idea here... You can put 8.1 on XP64... but XP64 is no longer officially supported by SCS or Vegas. You will not receive any support from Sony if you should decide to go this route.
