9.0b just released

Go get it

Notable fixes/changes in Version 9.0b
Resolved an issue that could cause the contents of media generators (most often text generators) to change when the Undo command was used.
Fixed a bug that could cause Vegas to crash during startup on some computers running Windows XP.
Fixed a bug that could cause still images to appear out of focus when rotated via Event Pan/Crop.
Fixed a bug that could cause audio dropouts in XDCAM SD (DVCAM) MXF files.
Fixed a bug that could cause an error when conforming trimmed XDCAM clips on the PDW-U1 deck.
Fixed a bug that prevented some QuickTime files from reading audio properly.
Fixed a bug that prevented metadata from being imported with 720-50p XDCAM clips.

Problem downloading. Stand by...ok would not go in Firefox but downloading 64 bit 9.0b now with IE.....I'll be an "early adopter. I'll post any fixes or problems that I see from my limited view (strictly SD) .. ...........

Download went fine with IE. Installed 9.0b 64 bit. No problems. Opened it and found a message to download 9.0b .. brilliant .. tried some generated media and UNDO .. tried to rotate beyond 45 degrees etc....No problems. Looks good so far. No issues yet. Fixed at least two of the major bugs. Old projects loading without a problem.

"Fixed a bug that could cause still images to appear out of focus when rotated via Event Pan/Crop. "

Well I am happy to report that that bug seems to be fixed.
I had a few of these rotations in a current project with this problem(waiting for 9.0b) and they are now working.
Thanks for the fix!

One little problem in 9.0b...I've loaded 9.0b in 64 bit but not 32 bit yet. Opened a project that has nested veg in it. Just tried to edit that nested veg with "Edit in Vegas". I expected it to open the 64 bit 9.0b but instead it opened my copy of 9.0a. No doubt when I load 9.0b in 32 bit it will open that -- I don't see this as an issue -- just a heads up .. ( this has been discussed and no one can find a way to direct which version Vegas will open when you do "Edit in Vegas" .)

is that all?? what about the "red media thumbnails on the timeline before crash" issue?
What about the incessantly sloooooow ac3 5.1 rendering times whereby n V7 they claimed we now have multithreaded ac3 rendering? As it stands were only using one thread which is pathetic considreing the video renders faster than the audio...

did they fix the "this is an unknown field order so Vegas is gonna set it to upper field automatically without teling you its gonna do that" issue?

ReneH wrote on 8/27/2009, 6:01 PM
Well, the Error Report Launcher still comes up when I check the processes running in the background.

Oh well....

Fixed slow startup times for users with many FX packages.
Fixed a crash that could occur when using Undo while dragging a pan/crop rectangle.
Fixed an issue with rendering surround projects to multiple mono files.
Fixed an issue that prevented stereo render templates from being displayed for 5.1 surround projects.
Fixed an issue with Center control resetting to 0.0 dB (if it was over 0.0 dB) after moving the pan position.
Fixed a crash rendering MainConcept AVC with the Two-pass check box selected.

thanks

but

Fixed an issue that could cause incorrect behavior if multiple clips were loaded into the Trimmer from the Vegas Explorer.

was this also fixed when multiple M2t files are imported directly to the timeline?? It doesnt say...

So far so good on everything here I think... my biggest problem was with .mov handling. Now even 64-bit seems to work...

I see V9b does not fix the Audio bitrate setting bug when rendering to MainConcept AVC/AAC. That is, if you open the "audio" tab for that encode format, the bitrate is always forced to minimum (6000 bps) which is basically poor telephone-line quality.

The easy workaround is that if you just don't open the Audio tab, it stays set to whatever the preset was originally. It just seems like it should have been a very easy bug to find & fix. Oh well.

Jbeale .. seeing the same thing in 9.0b with MainConcept AVC/AAC -- stuck on 6000 bps -- my workaround has been to use Sony AVC/AAC. Glad I did. I think the resulting MP4 files for upload to Vimeo have been better than MainConcept in the past. Still --- it appears this is not fixed in 9.0b.

Looks like the border FX bug (definite show-stopper if you need stills with a border) was also not fixed in 9.0b.

http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?ForumID=4&MessageID=667643

I am sure the disappearing titles/text bug was far more serious in scope and definitely required a sooner-rather-than-later fix.
PerroneFord wrote on 8/27/2009, 9:44 PM
I'm not sure I understand. I just chose that codec, choose 224kbps and rendered. Worked fine for me.

Wolfie - for sure! I agree. However, I did report this directly to SCS over a month back and had a favourable response too.

What I am putting down a marker on is that this is a bug that requires a GUI correction, and as such would surely be an untouchable, "cure n forget" type remedy. But obviously, not?

I'm real glad about the Pan rotate being cured. I am just about to launch into some text work which I had put off, using VP8 instead and now look forward to plain sailing . . .

I'm not Sony, can't speak for Sony. But...
This was a FAST point release to fix a problem that had people dead in the water with 9a. I would expect you'll see a slower, more developed release that hopefully has some Beta testing behind it.
We discovered a couple of new RED bugs that weren't in 9a, for instance. Not show-stoppers, but that's not the point.
I believe the point was to address issues that were stop-dead-in-your-tracks issues that SCS didn't anticipate having to address so soon.
That said, please keep writing how easy it is to find/fix bugs in an app of this magnitude. I need the cheer and the laughs do me good. When you're delving into this code, it's "break wind in NYC and a hurricane hits Japan."

That'd be a typhoon, and they just recently had a big one. So who farted?

Sorry to drag things OT...

Sometimes, often, small things concern me. To others, not so. I'm kinda hard wired this way. If I can raise a laugh and a chuckle - fine. I'll think of it as a well-meant bonus I provide here on the Forum.

And another thing, I'll get it wrong in what or how important items are ranked. I am not privvy to a kinda checklist of importance. If I see it, if it hurts me I report it.

That's all I can do. Nothing more, nothing less. . . . .

Grazie

Installed 9.0b and tried to open a small no-problem 9.0a project from yesterday: Vegas has stopped working.
Then I tried to open another small no-problem 9.0a project: all texts and much of the media was "reds" on the TL.

9.0b x32 on Windows 7 x64 - maybe an unlucky combination?

Edit:
Restored the machine to before installing 9.0b.
Now no problems in opening any of the above .vegs.
So I stay with 9.0a and just go easy on the undo's, which was the only serious problem I had in 9.0a.
ushere wrote on 8/28/2009, 12:40 AM
@ ritsmer

same set-up no problems as you described.

so far all seems ok, but i'm still getting a tl freeze in 64bit when using cc (secondary).

pick low, pick high. close window. open to change again, pick low, tl freezes - though everything else works?

Thanks, ushere.
I will install on my new XP laptop and see if the problem is related to Win7 or to my vegs.
I will report on this.
