9.0c hangs on splash screen

I am running 9.0c on xp. It has worked for many months. Tried to open a large file from my tivo, a 3gig file and it hung. Tried to restart vegas and it hangs on the spash screen at creating windows. thought it was trying to continue loading the large file, so I renamed the big file and moved it to a new folder. It still hangs. Then I reinstalled vegas and it still hangs on creating windows... what am I missing?

many thanks.

sys specs?

what format is it from the tivo?

odd that you get hang after re-install. did you install any other programs recently?

Sounds like you ave gotten into a closed circle. Was your Vegas setup set to open LAST used project? In which case Vegas is looking and choking on that same file. Is it possible to JUST load Vegas - Fresh!

This being so then you need to get VEgas open and see if that file can be read at all.

These are my openning shots at an answer. Maybe right maybe wrong, I'll let others wade in here - yeah?

Is a reinstall default to open last project or not? Can't remember?

It shouldn't matter as he re-installed it on another machine which would mean it couldn't open the last project. When that happens it should simple abort trying to load the project and continue on. I'm also pretty certain the defalt behavior to not open the last project, I think because when you upgrade it copies the prefs from the previous install

Further thoughts though. All these things are stored in the registry so what might be required to get a true clean install is to remove all the registry entries.

Ah but, if you hold down shift whilst Vegas loads it only loads the defaults.

Hold Shift+Ctrl when starting Vegas. You will be prompted to reset your prefs.
