9 irritating run up to speed....

is anyone else finding that the 'run-up' to full frame rate (this is at preview-auto) is most annoying?

if i let the project play through i have almost instant playback wherever i place my cursor, but ONLY if i let it play through first - otherwise it takes few seconds to come upto speed and then it's not always in sync (m2t and mxf files).

that said, once i do have full rate playback, it breezes through fx's, (incl. magic bullet looks)

in 8 i have more or less instant playback from go.....

leslie

oh, and the bloody pop's / click's that appear mysteriously and then go away...... NOT in 8 either

You think thats bad, try editing 3 different camera feeds in the multi camera setup...It really comes to a crawl when selecting different cameras file feeds..It takes forever before it finally syncs back up in the preview window, which makes editing a nightmare at times...And my system is no slouch...(i7 Core with 6Gig DDR3) they really need to fix this in the next patch....

I agree, to be honest I find V9 very poor and slower in general compared to V8! seems more like Ive paid for a beta release:-(

"seems more like Ive paid for a beta release:-( "

Arguably a fair enough comment. Then again all updates to V9.0 will be free. How I look at it is you get the upgrade to V9 at a discount to thank you for being part of the public beta test program.
So far I've managed to get paying work out the door with V9 as well as finding a few speed bumps. I'm not complaining as I've still got V4,V5,V6,V7 and V8 to fall back to.
One thing that does concern me is new users who join the circus at a point " " release. I do wonder if they should not also get a serial number to the previous version.

My free trial runs out in a couple of days, I will be getting the upgrade before the deal runs out at the end of June, other than the preview window issue, Version 9 has been pretty stable in all the other areas, and after pulling my hair out from time to time I was able to finish my latest project...Hopefully a patch will be coming sooner than later....

As a new user and convert from Final Cut Express (a Mac to PC switcher! How’s that for swimming against the tide...), I wish that I had been given a code to V8. I’m taking, on faith, that the issues will be solved soon.

On my core 2 duo ( E6700 @ 2.66GHz) with 4Gb RAM, V9 freezes randomly. CPU usage shoots up to 100% and stays there until I use task manager to terminate the app.
So far, it has frozen whilst
* creating a sfk file
* cutting and pasting text events on time line
* re-arranging windows.

I am afraid of starting a new project on V9, so I continue to use V8 which has worked well on this computer.
I am just wondering whether it needs more RAM:(

By the way, I found the preview window "getting up to speed" worse in V8.0c. There, when it happens, which is often, the only remedy is to keep restarting the preview until it runs a full speed. At least in V9.0 it quickly achieves "speed" on its own, no restarting. V9.0 preview is generally better, and faster, for me. (m2t, 720P 30 and 24 fps)

Maybe this is Sony's attempt at film simulation? The NLE now works sort of a like a film camera; the drive motor takes a few moments to achieve speed from a standing start.... especially when cold or if the batteries are getting low...

(note: joke. :-)

I've had the same thought.
