9c - Can't render to QuickTime

robwood wrote on 10/28/2009, 12:38 PM
subject title says it all:

i set up the quicktime to specs i want, click SAVE...
a dialog box instantly flashes on/off (unreadably quick) and nothing is rendered.

i've tried uncompressed, photojpeg, sorenson3 codecs
various frame-rates & frame-sizes

rebooted the system. no improvement.

are there any other fixes i should check? QT renders were fine til i updated.

sorry, forgot to mention running 64bit version

update: i installed 32bit version; same problem

Which version of Quicktime are you using?

Check recent posts here about going back one version.

"Which version of Quicktime are you using?" ...according to About QuickTime i'm running:
Version 7.6 (472)
QuickTime Version 7.6 (1292)
thx for the suggestion Course, but the version i'm running is older than the one mentioned on the forum causing problems.

i'm pretty sure the problem has been caused by the update as i'd rendered QT files using the same presets earlier today with no difficulty.

i reverted to 9b, can't render.
tried 8b, can't render.

what is in the 9c update that changes how Vegas interacts with QuickTime?

From the Pro 9.0c Readme:
* Fixed an issue reading QuickTime audio when using QuickTime 7.6.4
* Fixed a crash when displaying the Audio tab for QuickTime templates when using QuickTime 7.6.4

found a better solution: http://forums.creativecow.net/thread/24/900130

the relevant quote from a dialogue between Jeffrey Ellis and John Rofrano led to this:

"...I finally had to call Sony TS and they did have the solution. They first removed all 0 use files (I think that was the ultimate cause), then had me render directly to the C drive rather than the project folder."

i have no idea what "0 use files" are, but i'm able to create QuickTimes by rendering to the C drive.

thx to Jeffrey/John/Sony TS for providing an answer.

It's hard to say with any kind of certainty, but I've had nothing but problems with Quicktime regardless of the application. I have issues with After Effects too. Vegas is actually the least bad (but I'll run a quick QT render on a project I'm working on to see how it goes).

I'm running Win7 and Vegas 9c 64-bit...so far it's a terrific combination.

That said, Quicktime is a 32-bit app, and it's never been very happy in any 64-bit environment I've used it in.

Followup:

Window 7, 64-bit
Vegas 9.0c, 64-bit
Quicktime 7.6.4

No problem rendering anything from Quicktime. Sorry.

Zero-use files are media referenced in your media browser that aren't used in the project. I always click on the "lightning bolt" icon on the media browser to remove them from the project before rendering or compressing a project.
