This has most probably been answered a thousand times before, but I can't think of the search criteria for the Forum - so apologies.
Is there any way to force the viewer to watch the Video through BEFORE they get to the/a menu? I know about the "Play First" control, and that's great.
Grazie, don't get your neezhnies in a bunch over this. It's not quite the pain in the gulliver that it seems! You're half way there, using a first-play video.
After you select and assign the first-play video, go to Media Properties and then select Remote Buttons . Here you can turn off all the remote buttons if you want, and all the malenky malchicks & devotchkas will forced to viddy your presentation in its entirety or until their glaz-balls begin to bleed, whichever comes first.
Appy-polly loggies, if you've slooshied this before!
Edit: Don't forget to set the end action of your first play item to point to the main menu!

Grazie, you can disable some buttons. I think the only one you can't disable is STOP. and you can do this on a movie/menu basis.
Even with the buttons disabled like this, on most players you will find that the sequence STOP-STOP-PLAY (or less commonly STOP-STOP-STOP-PLAY) will get you out of the "protected" media and into the first menu or the main program item.
But this doesn't seem to be very widely known amongst the general population so disabling the buttons will probably achieve what Grazie wants (for most people, at least).
Although the remote buttons can easily disabled in first play videos I do not recommend this technique. As MarkWWW points out above this kind of programming technique can easily be overcome by what are known as set-top player resets for first play.
The only reason the techniques are not well known is because the Hollywood industry kept the lid tight for many years hoping customers would always (be forced as the viewer to) see the movie trailer previews first. This technique has largely been abandoned in modern day DVD production.
I prefer to take a cue from the changes that have been adopted in the industry to use "Fast Play" as an alternative method of presentation. Generally this would mean giving the viewer a limited window of time to use the remote control to jump solely to the main menu. If they don't choose the limited window of time..the remote control gets locked out.
As an even more friendly alternative - I also offer title lock-out of all remote buttons except FFWD during first play. That seems to me to the most acceptable solution for customer and author.
