A few question How-To's

i got some great help with my last question...so here are some more lol

can anyone tell me how to:

A - Slow motion PART of the video...and then (for example) bring it back up to speed after i want the slow motion over with...
B - Freeze a certain frame (i want to freeze a certain expression on somebody's face, and then add some text over his face for my intro to that character...)... so i want to have the video of him, and then freeze it on his face for probably 5 or 10 seconds (for example)... and then go back into a diff. video and repeat that proccess for all my characters... i hope that makes sense..haha
C - This may be easy, but i've fooled around forever and cant seem to make it work. I want the audio from one of my AVI (type 2) files...and keep that going while i add a different VIDEO (only) over that audio track. So, i want to be able to trim and edit the audio track seperately from its' own video track...yet i want to be able to still switch back so that they edit together as well. is there a way to do this even? i asuume there is, because on films or TV etc. - they have a person talking, and while they are still talking they switch to another person's face - just as an example that is.

THANKS A MILLION if you can help me out!

All quite possible.

1: You can use velocity envelopes to accomplish this very nicely and simply. Insert a velocity envelope on the video track which will default to 100% speed. Right-mouse-button click on the envelope line where you want the video to start slowing down. Right-mouse-button click to add another point just after this. You can then drag that second point down for slower speeds (all the way to stop or reverse if you wish). When you want the video to resume full speed, add two more points and drag the second point back up to 100%.

2: See above. You can have the transition time between the two points as short as 0 frames. Slow the clip down to 0% velocity to get the freezeframe. Resume 100% afterwards.

3: The simplest way is to drop your alternative video event into a track above the main event. It will take precedence and replace the video from the main track. You can even fade it in and out at the ends for a fade transition. You can also have it be a picture-in-picture, semi-transparent, move in and out, or about a zillion other effects.

hmm ok thanks, but is there any way to edit the audio's speed to go WITH the video once i slow it down, or freeze frame it?

thanks again.

Ummm, that's a tricky one. For the freeze frame, you can split the audio track (type S)at the same point the freeze starts, then shove the right side of the audio track over to where the freeze ends.

For the slow motion, if you want to keep the audio & video in sync, then probably using Velocity Envelopes isn't the easiest way. Split both the audio and video tracks at the beginning and end of the slow section. Shove the right-most portion farther over to the right, then Ctrl-drag the edge of the middle portion out to the right farther to stretch it. This will slow down both together. When you get it to the length/speed you want, move the right-most portion back up against the middle portion.
