A format question

I have an EX1 Camera and am in the process of switching over from AVID to Vegas Pro9--- Vegas just has more EX1 features.
I'd like to shoot all my material in HD35mbps--i.e. full quality--
however, my clients don't necessarily need it---at the moment. So I could easily give them HDV material.
But, again, i'd still like to shoot everything in the EX1's full HD mode for future usage.
Question--is it easy/wise/ to use this material but 'edit' with VEGAS in andHDV project? ...i'd probably then export/render in HDV m2t file and just send the files.
Or would it be better to create an HD project--edit in that---then render as HDV?
Just trying to come up with the best possible, least complicated work-flow.
Thanks for any advice

I always edit in the format which closest matches the source footage and then render whatever lower resolution final product I happen to need.

No need to compromise.

John is right. With Vegas 9 it's easier than ever to edit footage from the EX cameras.

Import your video using the Device Explorer and you're ready to edit the native footage. Then out put to whatever format your client needs.

However, if you have a clip spanning two SxS cards, you will need to import the video using the Sony Clip Browse.

Ditto to what Jay and John said. You will find that editing in the full resolution of your camera will also be a smoother experience. Otherwise Vegas will be interpreting your footage on the timeline just to play it back which will slow things down. Playback is always fastest in the native resolution of the footage. Rendering for HDV shouldn't pose any problems.
