A slightly different view of NAB

Tonight we attended the FCPUG gathering at the Stardust. It was a tremendous showing of all the various FCP UG's around the country.(and world)
One comment constantly made of course, was, "There goes the Vegas guy."
Many then came up to me to ask questions about Vegas, and several asked about using the two apps together on the two platforms.
A very well known FCP editor and trainer, who has serious credits under his belt, indicated he had just purchased Vegas yesterday to start learning at home. He felt that Vegas and FCP are the two future platforms, and had many other great things to say about Vegas.
More than 15 Vegas books were sold AT THE FCP Users Group meeting!!! So these guys are interested in Vegas, no doubt. When we gave away a couple copies of Photoshop CD training DVDs, several questions were asked about Vegas training.
After talking to Andreas of Bitjazz, it seems like more cool things are coming for codecs in the Windows platforms from this top end, super fast codec for FCP.
The buzz around the show is about many things, HDV and HD in particular, (whatever the hell it means to whomever is saying it) Vegas, Apple's Motion, Microsoft's WM codecs, WMV HD is all over the show. Audio is getting a huge focus on all the NLE's, but what's funny is that few of the new toolsets meet Vegas.' BlackMagic has some killer 14 bit stuff happening. (yes, I did say 14 bit) and they're doing it with Vegas.
Show floor is still shoulder to shoulder on both floors of the South hall. With luck, tomorrow will be less crazy and jostled.
Come see me show Vegas in the Artbeats booth if you are still around the show.

Thank you for the insights Spot. I am particularly interested in what is going on in the HDV area.

thanks for the update and i think you hit the nail (i also hear of some massive discounting of a certain A product right now, so some other people may be getting the same message)
