a/v sync

i used 2 video cameras to record an event, and in my project i am changing between 2 cameras. but only one was recording the main audio. and now the audio and video are way off. are there any tips for syncronizing the audio and the video?

After the fact, but......... a hand clap in front of all the camerers works, Not preiece but good ... all old movies were done this way= in the old days.. were I come from.
It is heipful to "slate:" esch take with a indentifiable name.. ie: scene 1-- take 1..... ect.
