Aardvark Aark 24

Hello
I have 2 Adats, a steinberg aci, the Aardvark Aark 24 sound
card, and a Pentium 2 330 Mhz PC with 156 megs of Ram and a
standard IDE drive with windows 98 running Vegas.

I am trying to run 16 tracks of audio on my Adats and
anywhere from 2 to 12 tracks of audio on Vegas
simultaneously. They are being mixed down on a Yamaha O1V.
I have been told by the aardvark people that the 9 pin adat
sync is non-usable with Vegas. So I am running a sync out
of the Adats to the Steinberg ACI and then sending a midi
out signal from the ACI to the Aark 24 Midi in. Vegas is
Chasing to MTC.

Vegas and the Adats will not stay in sync.

So.... I went and rented a BRC to use as a sync interface
instead of the Steinberg piece (I know.. I know it is
ancient) The Brc would start Vegas without a hitch but the
tracks would drift. When I started Vegas via the Adats
and the Steinberg it would be in sync at least half of the
time.

I am at my wits end. I almost know all of the techs names
at Sonic Foundry and Aardvark by heart. I have tried the
folowing:
Made sure all of the background programs that windows runs
are off except Explorer and systray.

In options/sync in Vegas I have played with the playback
buffering and have found that it works best at .99.

I have Vegas 1.0 b Build 208 and the newest drivers from
Aardvark.

I have tried running Vegas at 29.97 Non-Drop FPS and
everything else at 30 Non-Drop FPS(per a SF tech).

I have triggered playback only.

I have re-recorded the audio in Vegas with the BRC and they
still will not play back.

I am now Sub-mixing my mixes with the 2 Adats and not using
Vegas at all. I am about to surrender but I spent too much
money to let go.

Please Help if you can.

What is the Aardvark 24's digital clock locked to???

It needs to be locked to an ADAT sync-derived WC or AES3 input for
this to work.

Best of luck.

The Aardvark is clocked to the Adats via the lightpipe. You can
select the Adat as the master when you transfer audio from the Adat
to Vegas

The tech at Aardvark says that you would get poor audio as a result
of incorrect Word Clock and not drifting tempos.

He seemed to think that WC had nothing to do with my problem.

For best results, use uncompressed media until you do your final
render. Every time you recompress any type of file there will be some
degradation (even if you don't notice it). Successive recompressions
will continue the degradation and at some point you'll definitely
hear it.

Hmmm...That should work then.
