Windows 98SE, 80g E slave drive. Sony TRV 530 firewire connection. When printing to tape everything great until approx. 30min. Where video became choppy and sound drops in and out. AVI plays fine problem when printing to tape. Have tried previewing to external device before printing to tape. . .same thing. When playing on windows media player OK. Would appreciate any help! Oh, everything to E except temporary file. Don't know if necessary to move temp. file to E or how.

For the worth, I have had many problems doing saves etc, until I pulled out all my USB connections. I have no idea why, but no problems since then.

defrag all drives and making sure no backgound apps kick in during print to tape.

What I'm going to say next maybe totally wrong... But hey here goes... I don't print to DV Camera tape, I send DV via Dazzle Hollywood Bridge to VCR-VHS tape....

1. Have you done this? Just to check you can print to a VCR.

2. Here's the thing... do you possibly think that the tape is faulty... there I've said it! Sorry if .....

Sarasdad, to reset to factory settings, quit VideoFactory (and Video Capture) completely. Hold the Shift+Ctrl keys down while you start VF again. Warning, this will reset every single option and preference you've ever changed back to their original settings ... even the ones you wanted changed.

I am use to vw3 when you go to produce dv the templete for dv is automatic is it the same for vf or do I have to change settings also what is sonic dv reader and do I have to have it checked

I may have misunderstood, but have you got VF plus all files/editing on same drive? The best setup is to have editing suite on one hd and to do all editing etc on other hd. This eliminates a certain amount potential for errors...

Press Ctrl-Alt-Del and look at the task list. The more tasks running, the more likely that one of them might "wake up" in the middle of a print-to-tape and begin causing problems. The one task that causes me the most problems -- and absolutely must be stopped before running VF -- is HPHAMON1, a utility loaded by my HP Photosmart P1000 printer. It communicates with the printer's CompactFlash card reader and always causes the print to tape to fail in the manner you describe.

Once you have the Ctrl-Alt-Del task list up, I would recommend ending every single task except for Systray and Explorer (they are required). Then, try printing to tape.

Oooh...really...? Have you sent an e-mail (or contacted) SF about this?

I had good results with them. There is great advice in this forum, but it is not a SF tech support forum, from what I have read.

No have not contacted vf as of yet. The program is wonderful. IM sure its my computer not there fault . IM thinking I need to start all over with new everything instead of adding.I can do so much more than I could with VW3. NO AUDIO PROBLEMS NO CAPTURE LIMITATIONS.tHE BEST THING ARE THE PEOPLE IN THIS FORUM

I've had the exact same problem as you have. Unfortunately, I don't have a definitive solution, but the last time I printed to tape I finally managed to get it to print without audio or video interruption. I did all the things that everyone in this forum suggested (ie. defrag, e-drive, shutdown non-essential tasks, etc.). The last and final thing that made a difference was either:

1) minimizing the VF screens
2) increasing the Record Engage Delay from 7 to 12 under the VideoCapture Preferences/Print to Tape dialogue (I have no idea what this really does, I was desperate)
or,
3)holding my mouth just right while it printed

I wanted everyone to no, it works! Just hold your mouth right and everything works,
I finished 2hr and 30 min video edited with titles and printed back to camera no problem.I don't no what was wrong but everything is great. Thanks for all the help

That great, I hope it was just a one-time thing for you.

As a side note, I have been using Norton's System Works to keep my computer running smooth, just for general matinance. It finds some errors once in awhile. Nothing to do with my SF products, though.

How did you print 2hrs and 30 min on to a dv tape? Did you use camera as pass through?

Glad your problems got worked out. I've been following this thread as I have a sound gapping problem myself on a 1 hr long project.

I'M SORRY. I mean I split it to 3 dv tapes then sent to svhs T-160 tape for my master to make copies from. The entire project was 2hrs 30 min.I tried producing using camera to vcr that is when problem started. one thing I think happened I was not letting my sound tracks build before I started editing. Man it sure feels good to finish. Oh yes, turn everything off and defrag.
