about demos and updates

I have a few questions. Is it possible to update from Movie Studio 9 to 10 by downloading the update file? I clicked on the sticky topic "Vegas Movie Studio Updates" then clicked on 9.0b Platinum, and it takes you to update for 10 which I think is a glitch but just making sure.

By the way I have MS9 Platinum and I don't think I ever updated it but when I check "About VMSP" it says 9.0b (Build 92). Does this mean it's already updated?

Also if you have 9 installed on your computer, can you still download the demo version of 10 in which case you'll have two different versions at once, or do you have to remove one version before you can try the next one?

1) No. Free updates are only within the same version number, such as 9.0 9.0a, 9.0b, etc. If the version number changes from 9 to 10 then it's an upgrade and these must be paid for.

2) If that's what it says then that's what it is. Updates are never automatic, so you must have done it yourself.

3) No problem having multiple versions install and all running. I've had four different versions installed and running simultaneously. Note however that the .vf file formats are not backward compatible. If you save a .vf project in version 10 it won't open in version 9. Therefore, if you experiment on any of your current 9 projects make sure you make a copy of the .vf file first before opening it in 10.

Do you have "Moive Studio 9" or "Movie Studio 9 Platinum Edition"?

The b update for VMS9PE is found HERE.

Help > About should tell you which version, or at least the build number.

Hello Oldred:

If you log into the Vegas site and check MyAccount/MySoftware, it will display the registered version of your software and will also show whether there a free updates available for your software.

As previously indicated, an update is free will take you from version 9.0 to 9.0b or 9.0c or whatever.

An upgrade is not free, and it will take you from one numbered version to the next, i.e., 9.0 to 10.0.

Regards,

Kimberly
