Abrupt ending on DVD

Hello,
I created an mpeg2 & AC3 in Vegas 7. Imported into DVD Architect 4, and went through my normal procedures. The problem is that at the end of the DVD the video ends abruptly, instead of a nice fade out like created in Vegas. I imported the VTS video file that was burned onto the DVD into vegas to check it out and it plays fine at the end. The total file size of the video files burned onto the DVD = 4.04 GB. Any thought on why this might happen?

Happy Holidays

Thanks
Dave P.

As a side note to this-if I create a DVD with only this file it works fine. When it is added to a DVD with other files is when the problems seem to occur.

My guess would be that maybe the project's screwed up? If for example you replace a video file in a project, the end time can stick, even if the newer file has a longer duration. It's not always easy to spot an early end point/time because the right end of the time-line's grayed out pretty darkly -- have to drag it to the right and see if there's anything underneath.

If that doesn't help, & if the project's rendered DVD to hdd still misbehaves, you might have to recreate the project. Or maybe you can save it by removing the problem video & ac3, renaming both files, then re-importing?

What I ended up doing was to copy the whole job into a new Vegas build, then I added a 2 second black colored media to the end and this worked. I'm really not sure what the problem was, but at least I found a work-around that got it done for me.

Thanks for the suggestions & any more thoughts are very much welcome.

I've seen this problem quite regularly, not only on my own DVDs but even on commercially produced DVDs too. Apparently some players just have problems now and then playing the last bit of a file. One thing i noticed very early on was that the commercial DVDs that don't have this problem all include a couple seconds of blank at the end. I started doing the same thing and now there's no more problem.

hmmmm... I would have expected the same behavior whether the DVD only contained the video or the complete project. (?) Maybe it has something to do with the added scripting DVDA inserts (inserted) for the regular (not video only) DVD? Or maybe it's a look ahead behavior in the players? Since it worked in a video-only DVD, while it could be just coincidence, I'd think that eliminates any consideration of the audio track.

At any rate there's nothing truer than it's great practice to add at least a second of black to both ends of a DVD title video file as Kelly posted.

FWIW I've also had pretty good luck making sure I set the end point of *any* video in DVDA, whether it's an intro, menu, or title. It doesn't have to be much -- I often add just one frame to trim on the vid track for a separate intro & menus -- but it definitely seems to help so far (knock wood). In fact, trimming or setting the end point for title video *might* be a little more important than having a second or 3 of black at the end of the title, but I have little more than a few projects to back that up since I normally do both.

The important thing though is that Dave got it working & his project done -- Cool!
