AC3 and nested projects

A small AC3/nested project query. I'm new to Vegas so haven't nutted out many of the fundamentals yet.

I have a 66 minute DVD project broken into 8 segments for ease of editing and each segment is mixed with 5.1 surround. I have now combined all 8 segments into a nested project ready for rendering as a whole.

Problem, the audio from the nested segments is now on a single track and not mixed as it was in each segment.

If I render to AC3 from the master, will it use the surround settings in the nested segments or a whole new mix? The manual doesn't make this very clear but appears to suggest I have to remix the whole thing again in the master track!!!!

I HOPE I have read this wrong and it will render based on the segments. My fingers are crossed - so are my legs ad infinitum.

The surround mix from each of the 8 segments should carry over into the nesting. If you've got something on the master of each nest though, it can cause problems in the master project. I've found that if you have anything on the master bus, it can create some confusion in the master project timeline, so I leave everything off the master in my to-be-nested timelines.

"The surround mix from each of the 8 segments should carry over into the nesting. "

I take it from that it simply doesn't show as a surround mix although it actually is??

I'm not using "busses" per se in each segment - they're simply mixed on individual tracks in each segment (vo to centre, music across front and ambience across all speakers etc.)

The "combined" audio tracks from each segment is showing as a single track in the total project.

I'm sorry to sound like a klutz but it's not all that clear to me yet. I have surround working fine (without busses) in each segment because a full render and burn via DVDA played back very nicely .

However, I am forced to switch to a "total project" mentality because of chapter delays when using individual segments in DVDA which is the way I've always done it in "other" packages.

I'm a fast learner but damnably slow to start :)
