AC3 bit rate question for DVD

Aje wrote on 4/27/2010, 4:15 AM
I have made a concert with superb auido from the concertshalls own
micks and have it in 24 bit/48 on timeline.
I rendered video with mpeg DVDA template (PAL)
I wonder if the default AC3 bit setting (192) is enough to make
justice of this splendid audiotake

Can a dvd-player read a higher bit setting than default 192?
If so - what bit setting would be optimal?

Higher bitrates are always better until you reach the point where either you cannot hear the difference or you're using the same bitrate as uncompressed. For a concert one might consider compressing the video enough to use PCM audio.

Depending upon the space you have left (after video) PCM will sound the best. For AC3 I would use a minimum of 256 Kb/s.

Thanks a lot - I´ll go with 256 due to space limit.
