As far as I know, it is a "decoder" only -- so that VMS can import DVD-camcorder discs, which apparently use AC3 sound.

VMS / DVDAS cannot render out AC3 sound (at least not yet... looks like the next version will!)

Thanks Tim. I had a DVD which was encoded with AC3 and I was trying to rip part of the audio off of it. It didn't work. The audio and video imported into the timeline but when I tried to play it, the two were out of sync and the audio was horribly disfigured. Finally used TMPGENC to get what I wanted.
