AC3 ReRendering in DVDA!!!

Might not be in the right forum but I think it has to do with Vegas...

I made a 4 channels soundtrack in Vegas for a Music VideoClip...
I had to create an AC3 template in Vegas because there was too much sound loss with the provided 5.1 Surround DVD template...
What was changed from the original 5.1 Surround DVD Template was the Dialog Normalization set to -31db, the Stereo DownMix to Lo/Ro and the line mode profile set to NONE as suggested in this forum...

Why DVDA has to recompress the AC3 file ???
The result is a loss of about 15db !!!

Another question, I had to reinstall my OS as well as Vegas among other products...
After installing Vegas I was able to access the different Video format Templates I created but can anyone tell me where did the AC3 templates went ???
Where does Vegas store the AC3 Templates Informations ???

Thanks for any infos...

sounds like your actual dialnorm value is quite a bit different than -31dB. dialnorm is used by the compression algorithms in the decoder to set levels. Dialnorm should be set according to what actual content is in the 5.1 stream.
dialnorm is hard to understand sometimes. go to dolby.com and do a search on dialnorm. you'll find a pdf (among other things) that explains all of the parameters (including dialnorm - what it is, etc.) hopefully that helps.
