Ac3 sync

Widetrack wrote on 3/12/2006, 9:03 AM
I burned a project out of Vegas as separate mpeg2 and AC3 files as the DVDA manual says.

But now the sound track is out of sync. It begins early.

There is actually no sound for the first few seconds, but I set the loop region in Vegas to the very beginning of the project, expecting it would burn that silence to the AC3 file. but it didn't

How do I fix this?

Place an empty event on the audio track where you currently have no sound, trim as needed.

Insert/Empty Event

Tried rendering again, double-checking the loop. This time it worked. User error, I guess...

BUT,

The resulting AC3 file is quite a bit quieter than the original audio clips, or the sound track in a DV NTSC .avi I burned.

I used the DVD Stereo template in burning the AC3, abd that has a default of -27dB "dialogue normalization" That would do it if it means what it says, but why would I want to normalize so low?? I can see MAYBE 10 or 12 dB on a wildly out-of-control track, but this ain't that.

Does this make sense?

Read this post by J. Fisher. and it should clear it up.

Here's a thread over at jetdv that will explain how to customize and save an ac3 preset that will retain your volume into DVDA. I use it all the time, and it works great. Darryl

Thank you both for the tips. The -31 and "None" settings did it for me.

I also found a complete discussion of the whys and hows of this issue at:

I recommend it highly, but find a quiet room to read it in.
