Academic Versions?

Hello,
How are you guys doing? I'm new to the forum and am considering purchasing Vegas 5.0, but I have a few questison. I'm a student so vegas seemed like a great choice considering I can get the vegas + dvd really cheap! So... here our my questions. First, is the academic user license the same as Version 4.0? I know with Version 4.0 there were no restrictions on what you could use the software for. Meaning, you could use academic software for commercial purposes(making money). Is this still the same with Version 5.0. Second, does the academic version of 5.0 come with Boris LE and Magic Bullet? Anyway... Hopefully I'll be editing with Vegas soon! TTYL! Trust in God!
In Christ,
Kevin

", you could use academic software for commercial purposes(making money). "

To my knowledge, academic versions cannot be used for commerical purposes. It is for learning. It has all the same functionality but you cannot use it for commercial ventures.

I don't know if it's still the case but under sonic foundry, there were no limitations with the academic versions : commerical work was allowed.

What Nat said is correct. Under sonic foundry there were no limitations. Also with Version 4 under sony there were no restrictions. I wasn't sure if this has changed with version 5 though. So that's what I'm trying to figure out.

Hello SavedbyHim,

The EULA (End User License Agreement) is what dictates what you can and cannot do with the copy of our software you purchase, regardless of whether you purchase it from an acdemic dealer, direct from the manufacturer (us), or from a retail store. You can read all the details about the EULA here. If you have follow up questions, please don't hesitate to contact our Customer Service department.

Kevin,

Glad to see you made it over here from the DV forums. This is where the real action occurs. That forum is watered down since it serves so many different users.

Hey Busterkeaton,
What's up? Yeah, I figured I could get more and better responses over here. So from what I get from reading the end license I can use it for commercial purposes. I know some products like Adobe and Macromedia there are restrictions on the academic software. Not in the actual software, just what you can do with it. That's one reason why I want to go with Vegas, is because I can get it cheap(academic) and still use it for commercial purposes. I just got contacted today by someone who wants me to do some commercials for them! Well... TTYL!
In Christ,
Kevin
