ACID, Vegas and MIDI

Vegas - Audio or Video - is not about MIDI. There is no sequencer in Vegas, so the idea of softsynths doesn't apply. I don't know what else I can say here.

(ACID has MIDI, and we are commited to improving and expanding its MIDI capabilities.)

How likely is it that MIDI will make it into Vegas? I'm tempted by the introductory offer for ACID Pro 4.0 but might have little use for it if the MIDI facilities were added to Vegas.

I get the overall impression that MIDI will be added to Vegas, as there is great demand for this. But I don't know for sure! I'd be very happy with ACID 4 - like midi capabilites :oP

Why the heck would there be a demand for MIDI in Vegas...I thot that was supposed to be an end app..? the final hurrah...! the compilations before setting (or psuedo mastering) to disc for submission, etc..softsynths are a pain, even in my sonar131 and all that extra "gadgetry" was a mess from the gitgo, and keeps Cakewalk from being what it once was: a simple and powerful music editor..why infiltrate sonice foundry with this yaya...Acid4/Sonar131 to SF6 to VV3 is a nice musical tree...start glopping on softsynths, DXi's, VSi's, soundfonts; I don't know...

you don't have to use the features... in fact, if you try ACID 4, you will see that they are totally unobtrusive. Especially if you don't use them. Just because other companies aren't cable of integrating them into a sensible workflow... don't presume sonic foundry would fall into the same trap. Their user interfaces have always come first, and that is one of the main reasons I stick with them and trust them.

If you don't want or need the features, fine, don't use them and they won't affect you. However, don't deny there is a demand, because there is a massive demand, and peoples confidence in the idea has increased since we've all seen how promising ACID 4 looks. It's got bugs at the moment... but not if you're using it in the way you used ACID 3...

Just have a search across this and the old video forum and you'll see the demand.

stusy, in case you havent noticed, when a update is made 99.999999% of the features/fixes seem to be about video. This whole app has TONS of video features

have they hurt you ?
stusy wrote on 9/18/2002, 6:18 PM
I didn't purchase VV3 for video, and will very likely never use the app in a video sense...
PipelineAudio wrote on 9/18/2002, 6:24 PM
exactly

and the video features arent bothering you so how could you be sure midi features would ?

:)

Midi would be nice - ASIO and DX Automation come higher on my list tho...

I also see Vegas as the "last-step" in the production chain - anything that was composed via MIDI has been long bumped down to audio files before I go anywhere near the Vegas icon...

Hmm, a bit of optimisation wouldn't go a miss either...

It's a shame. As it stands, I probably won't be using Vegas until it includes DX and/or VST automation. I also own SONAR which does have it. I only use Vegas to mixdown audio on original tunes and burn CDs. I could probably have skipped over Vegas Video v3.0. I can't think of anything other than the CD burning that I needed Vegas 3.0 for.

I use my Nero for data only...I have recently ditched my sonar 131, 'course, I still have it; it's just "a drill" I'm goin thru...a purge, if you like...and I may dabble with my Pro 9 again...but now, it's just a4, sf6 and vv3 for now, and various plugins, noteware and hardware...sonar has always been a little feature-rich for my puny brain, so tryin somethin new...didn't really have any probs mixin a4 w/sonar131 either...!

I think it would be quite nice to have Acid and Vegas integrated in a rewire-like solution.

well met!

A rewire solution would be excellent, if Vegas 4 doesn't include VST instruments etc, it is ESSENTIAL. But even if it does have VST instruments, piano roll editing, step quantise, OPT etc, (which I'm desperately hoping for) I would still like to see rewire.

It opens up a few more creative possibilites, be it something like Reason, or simply a way of hooking up a project from another program, i.e something already done in ACID that you could hook up to the multitrack of vegas. :o)

Another reason for having VSTi's - or re-wire

When I'm mixing a big project, 40 tracks +, I need every bit of space in the mix I can get.

That means careful EQ, panning etc.

If I have to bounce down my VSTi's from ACID, import them into Vegas, I lose a lot of flexibility, and a lot of time if something doesn't work out.

If VSTi's were in Vegas, I could make any changes I wanted in real time, and just see if they work. This would also work if ACID and Vegas were re-wired.

Not to mention, playing along with the song without having to bounce it down and import into another app.

Of course SF would kill two birds with one stone if they put rewire into ACID + Vegas - all the unhappy ACID users could play with rewire, and we'd get our VSTi's.

I imagine it would be less development time than integrating the VSTi's into Vegas completely... however, I would be happier with that solution, as the system overhead of running just one app, would be less.

if ANYONE could do this in a reasonable, USEABLE way, it will be sonic foundry

<<I think it would be quite nice to have Acid and Vegas integrated in a rewire-like solution>>>

Why that's just outrageous. How can you say such a thing?
You should be publicly flogged in the SF courtyard for even hinting at this outlandish suggestion. Flogged with a "I love Vegas" cat-o 9 tails by the head of marketing at SF.

Get him!!! Get him!!!!
