Acronis True Image 10 Free

craftech wrote on 2/2/2009, 7:11 PM
Go directly to this page.

Fill out the required information (not too intrusive)

You then will receive an email from Acronis with an activation link. Click the link and the confirmation page shows the website password that you use with your e-mail address to Login.

Login and go to My Account / Registered Products.

There you will find a download link for Acronis True Image 10 and a Registered Serial Number download.

Warning: The site takes awhile to connect to. A lot of people are hitting the site so keep trying.

Thanks John,

I was going to buy another copy for another editor I have, but you just saved me the money. Thanks for the link.

I tried this a few months ago and ended up uninstalling it, because it wasn't nearly as good as the earlier version of True Image I had.

If you can find version 9, I think that is a better product.

Problem? Bloated mess.

Similar problem with Quickbooks Pro 2009, they dropped the price from $199.95 to $99.95 to $29.95 at OfficeMax recently, and still people weren't buying...

Didn't work for me. Got a s/n for v10 but was directed to a page where only the new 2009 version is available. Downloaded and installed it but it would not accept the s/n.

I tried as well... didn't work for me either.

Just as well I guess.... never did like Acronis. BOOtitNG is MUCH better.

I signed up, got the response e-mail, went to the Acronis site, got my serial number and downloaded the program. No problem.

When you get the account activation link and activate the account you can login using your e-mail address and the password they give you. Go to My Account and on the left side you will see a link for Registered Products. On that page there is the download link for the program, and right next to it is a link for a text file with the serial number on it. The number also appears right above the download link on the web page.

John

EDIT: Just noticed that they also e-mailed the serial number to me this morning in addition.

Thanks for the heads-up and the instructions for finding the download link. Never would've made my way there without 'em.

I must say, this was one of the more convoluted download processes I've gone through to grab a "free" program. Who would guess that I would have to login using a password that I hadn't yet created or been given, and then would have to CHANGE the unknown password in order to proceed to the download page? Sheesh...

I'm wondering if using the program is any more intuitive than this sloppy, circuitous route?

Thanks John. That did it.

I've only used the Acronis that came with my last Seagate disc. Used it once and it worked just fine restoring the entire system on a new C drive. Downloaded this version and it seems similar.

Can this version do incremental backups? I can't find it. What features is it missing? Surely they are not giving away the full version?

Didn't work for me. I got the registration email, but there were no registered products in "My Account" and I never got a serial number email either. It wasn't my spam filter, since I did get the registration email. Maybe they've stopped the promotion.

Me too - I tried several times yesterday - no luck.

I've tried for 2 days...This is a big joke. They're probably releasing something like one True Image copy for every 100 email addresses they collect.

The jokes on us. This seems like something a desperate company would do, just before going bankrupt.

I searched around some of the "deals" forums. A few people said that it has taken a few days to receive their serial numbers. One guy said that he signed up on the UK site and downloaded it from the US site (or vice versa - I forget).

I can tell you that when I did it the biggest problem was connecting. I had to reload the page a lot before I could progress. So I don't think there were only a "few" sent to people. In fact, when I Google searched it, previous offers like this came up for Acronis True Image 8 and Acronis True Image 9 from past years.

I can tell you that mine works and if you don't receive it, send an e-mail to them and ask. If you still get nowhere, I am sorry that you didn't get the deal. If they allowed it I would send you my serial number to use, but I am sure they don't allow it.

It took a few hours for me to get my serial number but it did come through.
Thanks to John for his suggestions on how to actually be able to download it.

I got the email with the serial immediately and I didn't have a problem connecting or signing up. I downloaded it right after I read the post.

I have recommended this product in the past.

However, if you Google:

trueimage OR "true image" corrupt archive

you get over a million hits, mostly having to do with the unfortunate fact that this program has a flaw that causes many backups to fail validation. Since many people don't validate (test) their backup immediately after performing the backup, they don't know until they try to restore that True Image will not be able to read all the files in the backup.

If you go to the True Image support forums you will find this thread:

Corrupt/Can't Verify Corrupt Archives: Let's uncover the problem!

Which was started by me almost eighteen months ago. This post has now been viewed over 20,000 times (more than almost any other post, and more by a BIG margin), and has elicited 325 replies, many of which were from people who also experienced the problem.

When this program works, it is fantastic, but this underlying, very sinister problem means that you have to use it with great caution.

I am currently, for the fourth time in the past eighteen months, working with their tech support to try to fix this. I have told them that I believe their entire company is hanging in the balance, something I think is pretty obvious (gee, a backup program that fails to create a valid backup ...). Perhaps, finally, they may get it. We'll see.

It bothers me just to bump this thread to the top of forum, but, the Acronis message board has a thread about the serial number problem. Note, it's not very helpful:

http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?s=82dd9eaec3a10dd67245f5b80126a101&t=232463

I was actually considering buying True Image, but after this experience and jm pointing me to that "bug" thread, I think that I've changed my mind. I spent the money on chicken wings for dinner.

I have version 11. Does anyone know if it has the same problems as version 8?
blink3times wrote on 2/5/2009, 6:41 PM
"I was actually considering buying True Image.... "

As I said, they're probably handing out 1 free copy for every "x" number of email adds they collect. Then of course they turn around and sell your email add.... :(

Check out BOOTitNG.... much better.... and pretty powerful. The only thing that Acronis has over it is that it can do partial back ups and restores... but that only because it's built to work specifically for (and only) windows.

BOOTitNG is completely independent from any OS and therefore can image anything... including Linux and Apple.

Well here's the new gig. The free version was an advertising promotion and was only supposed to be installed from Personal Computer World's bonus CD, that came with a recent issue. Unfortunately, Acronis didn't realize that you could also install it from their website. They stopped issuing S/Ns temporarily and deleted the download links. I just got my S/N, but of course now, it is useless.
