Activate Movie Studio Platinum v. 9.0

I have eventually been able to download my registered copy of Vegas Movie Studio which was lost a few months ago due to a computer failure.  This followed advice received from members of the forum in response to my post outlining the problem.  The software has been successfully recovered and is shown to be Vegas Movie Studio Platinum version 9.0b (Build 92).  The work platform for the software looks similar to the old version although some features seem to have changed.  Although my past *.vf project can be accessed I am unable to fully recover the source data although music backgrounds and text generated by the software readily is available. Video clips (MTS) and Images (jpg) do not activate – even after carrying out a media transfer from the new computer folders to the project site.  Creating a new project is also not possible due to the data not being recognised.  Is there an explanation for this please.

What exactly do you mean by "unable to fully recover the source data". They do not "activate", they are just used by the programme provided it can find them. Mts video files and jpg images should not be a problem. What messages do you get when you open your old "vf" project? Are the files not found or are they not recognised as valid material?

Thanks for the response. I am still struggling to restore my project after the computer crash which lost my original Vegas MS software. The project had reached completion to the stage where a *.vf had been created and saved and was ready to be transferred to DVD.  All relevant data in images (jpeg) and video clips (MTS) were saved before the computer crash.  Now the MS software has been restored  and the *.vf file has been recovered  with the timeline and skeleton outlines of all video clips, images etc appearing in the Project Media compartment.  When the corresponding media is transferred from the computer source folder it is displayed as an additional image alongside the relevant skeleton image.  Nothing transfers to the timeline.  I have tried creating a new project with the new software and this seems to be working with some of the commands different form those used for my original project.  I assume both packages (version 9) should be compatible with my project although I notice the recent version is classed a “Platignum”.  I’m not sure if this was the status of the original.  Any further suggestions to resolve the problem would be appreciated.

Platinum or Platignum? I altered what I assumed was a typo in your first post and title. But perhaps there was a Platignum version, and not Platinum?

Unfortunately VMS 9 is way before my time using VMS so I'm not sure what is available in your version. With later versions there are two ways to fix your problem.

  1. If when opening the vf file you are told media cannot be found you then browse to where it is
  2. Right click on a "skeleton" image in the project media pane and select "Replace". Then browse to the newly transferred media item which you want used

Thanks for the tip. I have tried replacing a single skeleton image and this seems successful but with a host of images to be treated is there a short cut to replace all the issues at once. The software is Platinum - a typo error in my previous posting.

I'm not aware of a shortcut.

Look at one of your skeleton images in the Media Pane. Right click for its properties and there's a window which hopefully shows you the file name and folder path to where it needs to be found. How does that compare to where your new images are? If you can move the new images to the same folder path as indicated by the skeleton your problem may be solved.
