Add object over vide

Benita-Olivier wrote on 4/14/2022, 4:08 AM

Good day everyone,

I need some help with something simple, but for some reason, I can't get it right. I have a recording of an online meeting and I want to put an object over the faces of attendees to anonymise them (using Movie Vegas 17 Platinum). A black object overlaying the right side of the video will work perfectly. It can remain in one place for the entire video.

Please can you guide me to a tutorial video of some sort (or even assist here)? I have looked around but am missing something somewhere.

Thank you :-)

Benita

Add a solid colour event (black) onto the track above your video. Extend it as required.
Add a Bezier Masking effect to the colour event. Move the mask to where you want. You can choose different shaped masks. Providing you don't want to move the mask, that's it. If you want the mask to follow a particular person, you'll need to keyframe its location.

Dear @Jack S

Thank you so much for the advice. I spent more than an hour yesterday between trying things and watching youtube tutorials to figure it out. Following your advice took me 3min and it is sorted. Thank you so so so much. You removed a lot of frustration!

@Benita-Olivier I'm glad that solved your problem. If you wanted to make it look a bit more professional, with just a little more work, you can mask out with a blur effect. I've done a short video to show you how to do it. By the way, would you be kind enough to mark my comment as a solution.

Wow, amazing! I'm definitely doing to find use for this one!

@Benita-Olivier Hi, you don't need to duplicate the video, add the blur or whatever fx you want, then add the Bezier mask, choose the shape you want, then in the Bezier General Options choose Mask FX. (is that option in 17?)

It's also in Pan/Crop, top of the mask controls, Apply to FX (but is that in 17? 🤷‍♂️😏)

@Former user Mask FX option is available in VMS17 Platinum, but not Apply to FX in Pan/Crop. I assume the latter is only in Vegas Pro.

@EricLNZ 👍

@Former user +1. I'd forgotten the 'Apply to FX' option in MSP. The little grey cells aren't what they used to be. 😉
