Adding Music

I'm new to Vegas, just loaded it and still in the learning curve. I want to use royalty free music. I have used Smart Sound in the past with Studio and it works well. To use Smart Sound with Vegas I'll need to buy their Sonic Fire Pro. Is there a similar Sonic Foundry/Sony program that will get me the same result...*Royalty Free* music?

Nothing similar to SmartSound except for Acid. Might want to take a look around www.freeplaymusic.com. They have lots of Royalty Free tracks that I have used on a number of projects.

Yeah, Freeplay is good for your own private use, But...if your adding music to DVD's for sale...Freeplay is not free nor cheap.

Thanks

I guess Acid would be the only thing that is similar then. But it still isn't as easy to use as SmartSound.

You can still use the Pinnacle smartsound.

To make it work, create a video track in Pinnacle Studio that is the length of music you want. Use any video or title or black.

Edit the smartsound as normal, then go to Make File. go through the steps to create an AVI, but uncheck Include Video. Change the file extension to .wav and you have a wav file. Enter that in Vegas.

p.s. You might have to use the Indeo compression in order to uncheck includ video.

Redd - I have a copy of Studio 8 but haven't installed it. Did you have any conflicts with having Studio 8 and Vegas on the same PC? (FYI - I'm running Win2000)

There are no conflicts, however, once you install Studio 8, you will never, or virtually never, get it off (uninstall), if you choose to do so.

It has an extremely poor uninstall routine.

Just a plug for the site, try www.acidplanet.com, and listen to what's up there. About 50% is not very good, but there is some good stuff. Then, write the author/composer and ask them what they'd charge for using a particular piece of music. I've done this a few times when I needed a piece quickly and didn't like what I was composing on my own.
