Adding Video FX to Event

I am trying to add Video FX to Events or Tracks. I select a FX and get the dialog box (Video Event FX or Video Track FX), but then I don't see any results when viewing via Video Previewer. The only way I've found to see results is to render. Is this the only method?

Also, how do you indicate what portion of the event to apply the FX to? When I select the Event FX symbol from within the track, I would think it would apply the FX to the entire portion of the track. However, it only applies to a short clip of it.

I think one of my challenges is that I'm a Vegas newbie and a somewhat frustrated one, at that. I've used many of the lightweight products (Pinnacle Studio 8, ULead, Showbiz, Windows Movie Maker). I know that Vegas' quality and features are beyond comparison, but when a new user, I find this solution lacking in user-friendliness. I've read the user manual and tried Sony's product support, but no success. Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance,
C

In the preview window make sure that the " Split-Screen View button " is not toggled on. If it is on that is why you cant see the effect.

You can assign FX to a portion of the track either by splitting the track and assigning it just to the portion you want or by using keyframes.

Best of luck;

Ray, split screen view was the culprit! Thanks so much - can't tell you how much time I spent trying to troubleshoot that.

Thanks much and happy new year!
