Adding volume envelope defeats auto crossfade?

Please help a recovering Studio 8 user. I have a series of clips from a live high school concert in a project. Each clip is trimmed to eliminate the dead time between each piece, and there is a short fade through black between each clip. Each fade had its associated audio crossfade, but when I added an audio envelope to custom boost the level (to make it easier to hear the band director talking to the audience) the crossfades seem to be ignored (i.e., applause from clip A can be heard as clip B fades in). The graphic still shows the crossfade in place at the transition point. Before I activated the volume envelope everything was fine. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Jack

I am definitely no expert on this - however, I thought it was the other way around - ie, the crossfade trumps the envelope. Anyway, to achieve your desired effect, before messing around with audio envelopes, have you tried changing the type of cross fade? There are several different types... right click on the fade, and select fade type.... If that does not work, the only thing my novice experience would suggest is to eliminate the cross fade completely, and manually do it using audio envelopes. BUT, hopefully one of those more experienced than I will soon have a better suggestion for you.

Thanks for the reply, I have it figured out now. Crossfade was doing exactly what it was supposed to do, but I was trying to fade to zero and back up again when the next clip started. All is working fine now.
