Adjusting length of text events

Hi,

I'm trying to insert a text event on a video track...my default length for stills is set to 5.0 secs.

I want the text event to be about 20 secs...I could change my default settings, but if I don't want to do that, what I see happening is that my override in the top of the title tool does not seem to be working... well, at-least it doesn't seem to work when I play the event. I am able to increase the length of the event in the 'video event fx' properties window, but when I preview it, the event is still of the default length (5 secs)...

Any idea?

Thanks!

In Options/Prefs/editing, "Set Still Image Length" will give you what you want.
The better way though, is to make a selection on teh timeline of 20 secs, right click the blank area in the selection, choose Insert Text. Then your title will be the length of the selection.

Huh, didn't know about the right click thingy - Good to learn new things all the time.

Thanks Spot

I learned something too.

If you want to change an existing text event, right click, click Properties, then click the Media tab. You can type desired Length there. Not very user-friendly, but it is very accurate.

When you have set the desired lenth at the top of the dialogue window, you must pull the event out on the timeline to fill the newly set length. Grab its right end and pull till you see the little triangle mark at the top, indicating you have reached the event's set length.
If you don't have any keyframes set you can simply pull your text event out and leave it like that. It will repeat its five seconds seamlessly for the duration.

IF you set a marker at the at the start and end points it will snap to them when you drag it.
