Adjusting multiple event lengths to a single length

The_Aviator wrote on 6/6/2024, 1:51 PM

I am using Vegas Pro 21, build 315.

I have a project of mostly still images. After putting it all together I don't like the event lengths. In previous projects I would group the events and the make the adjustments, i.e., slide or compress, but this only adjusts the events by the same amount. This worked great if the events were all the same length, but that is not the case here. Ideally I would like some way to select a number of events of various lengths and then set all to one length, but I am not finding it. I have done it for new events through Preferences , but nothing for those already in the project, of which I have several hundred.

Appreciate any guidance on this.

Thank you.

A script would probably be the best option for this.

Another option, select the ones you want changed. Go to View - Window - Edit Details and then change it to "Selected Events". You can then change the length for one of them on that window, copy it, and then paste it into the other "length" entries in that window.

Thank you for the input. Your guidance helps, albeit still a bit cumbersome it is still better, easier, and faster than adjusting each event manually and I do understand it is a function of the SW. It would have been easier if the SW would at least let me batch paste the length into the Edit Details cells. I have seen other guidance that echo your recommendation on using a script, probably something I need to understand in more detail as I have never used a script before. I am sure it would help in more ways than just this application.

Thank you again for the quick response and guidance.

@The_Aviator Hi, I tried this the yesterday, If you click on the length box, press & hold Shift then click on the last events length box it will select all the ones in between, you can then right click 'Edit' then press Enter, but when I did it it did paste the size into all but the events on the timeline overlapped each other creating crossfades.. 🤷‍♂️

Hope you can see this

@The_Aviator @Gid @jetdv There is a script already written named Evenly Space Events. One change needs to be made for it to work with current versions of Vegas since Magix took it over from Sony. Just change Using Sony.Vegas; to Using ScriptPortal.Vegas; I've gone to find it.

@Robert Johnston That script will evenly space them. It will not make all selected ones the "same size".

@jetdv Yes, I know. I was just following up with Gid. Making them the same length is pretty quick in Edit Details. This script will space them out so they don't overlap. It's a good script to have anyway.
