Adjusting scene length and inserting scenes

Here is my scenario. I have main video captured from camcorder on track 3. Tack 2 has photo that overlays main video for just a few seconds. Track one has text that shows over the photo. Sound from captured video is on track 4. I have many scenes (events) on track 3. I can use mouse and drag either end of a scene to shorten or lengthen scene. I want to be able to shorten or length a scene as precise as I can which is by frame. I could do this in Pinnacle but can't figure out how to in Vegas. When I do this adjustment I want all tracks to say in sync. I want to be able to insert a scene (event) also and have all tracks stay in sync. I see discussions regarding trimming an snapping but having a hard time understanding. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'd only use more than one track IF I wanted to SEE the track/s below.

When I do this type of work, I would have ALL my Still and/or Video content on one track - period. This ways it keeps things rather simple and easy to edit. Sure, you would need to put the TEXT on the topmost track IF you wanted the Text to "float" over the visuals.

Keep it Simple! There will come a time when you WILL want to have multiple tracks - yes!! But I don't think, unless I have got it completely wrong, this is one of those occasions. You appear to be doing a straightforward, consecutive and sequential piece of editing, meaning: Video>Stills>Video>Other Media>Video>Stills . . etc etc . .plus some TEXT over the top . . Are you doing any manipulations that require you to have more tracks, than say 2? Are you manipulating any Media in 3-D space? Doesn't sound like it to me?

For adjusting scene length by frame, try the numeric keypad edge-trimming mode: select an event (clip), then press 7 or 9 on the keypad to select the left or right edge of the event (a red edge marker will show), and then press keypad 1 or 3 to trim length by one frame. press keypad 4 or 6 to trim by one screen pixel on the timeline (actual amount depends on how much you are zoomed in on the timeline). Press keypad 5 to exit edge-trimming mode.

Enable auto-ripple to have all the later events automatically move left or right with your scene adjustments (options/auto ripple; or ctrl-L). But turn auto-ripple off when you're done.

Combine the above keypad adjustment keys with Ctrl-Alt- to slide the transition right or left (adjusts both events at the same time).

Combine the above keypad adjustment keys with Alt- to "slip trim" the event (the edge stays put but the media moves right or left).

If you forget to press keypad 7 or 9 first, then keypad 1, 3, 4, 6 will move the whole clip right or left.

Pressing keypad 7 or 9 repeatedly moves the active edge to the next/previous edge or clip. Handy for trimming a sequence of clips, without going back to the mouse.

More info: search for "edge" in online help.

As for inserting a scene....I would like to hear somebody's quick way to do that.
