After a few crashes and glitches I made my first video with VMS14

I've been using VMS13 for years and I have to say that aside from a few bugs, this software is much improved over the old one. The best change has been the interface. It's a lot better than the drab gray UI of the old version and I'm stoked that I can do fades now without having to click or press anything. My Contour Shuttle still works with the same profile from the old version so that's good too.

Overall the software was worth it and although I have no use for SonicFire or Music Maker they are welcome. I was looking forward to a new Audio Studio but the old version still does the job. Looking forward to bug fixes but I'm happy with the upgrade so far. I made a video below for one of my product reviews, not Movie Studio Quality but it works.

So far my experience has just been more frustrating, and i'm borderline about to just abandon it and go back to MS12. MS13 was terrible, which is why i stayed with 12. But yes, it is light years better than 13, that was a trip to the dark ages...glad they reversed course.

My first experience with Vegas was with VMS13 so not sure how much different the older version was although I have read a few forum posts that certain features were removed. My biggest problems with the new build were caused by using 3rd party VSTs and when rendering. I have an older computer that has compatible GPU's but they don't seem to improve performance much. I did notice though that the addition of some of the included 3rd Party FX plugins dramatically slowed render times.

After playing around with the settings I found that the Sony AVC codec is about 25% Faster than the MainConcept when you use certain settings. I render with the settings in the image below and then use a GPU accelerated Transcoder to make the file smaller for upload. The funny thing is that it took me almost an hour to render the video above but only took 2 minutes to transcode it from 1GB to 300MB.

Hopefully the future build updates of VMS14 can fix the bugs.

My previous experiences of Vegas Pro, the application become more stable after several build releases. (include the latest VP14 - from the very first build 161 to the latest 211).

Yeah, once i add the second and third video tracks and set up a picture-in-picture view i can only watch the thing for a minute or two before it crashes out. I'm constantly saving it now so i'm not losing any progress..just makes it much more annoying and tedious. And i can't utilize the multi-track because it undoes any FX/motion/cropping... : - / (which i need to use to initial edit as half my footage is shot sideways now)

Yeah, I'm sure as the bugs are reported they will hopefully be fixed in future updates. I'm happy so far but for those with strict deadlines, this will become a problem. But the new Dev team seems to be more active here and new releases are typically buggy once they hit the market with all the different configurations out there.Looking forward to good things!

Not sure but that sounds like it could be the GPU or Memory. If you're using windows you should get an error message with the cause of the crash. If you want I can help you troubleshoot, if the program locks up and you have to force close it, it's probably memory. If it crashes outright with an error it could be GPU or a plugin conflict.

These troubleshooting tips for Vegas Pro also apply to Movie Studio: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-troubleshooting-crashing-and-stability--104785/

Thanks, Nick, lots of good info there. Can't believe I missed this page. I don't think anything here applies to the issues that I was having but definitely a good first step for diagnosing typical issues.
