Aligning Audio Tracks

In the past I digtally recorded a lot of tracks to many different songs. They currently exist as 16 bit 44.1 .wav files. They would be things like drums, rhythm guitar, bass, organ etc. In each song all the tracks were recorded to a common metronome so they are all in synch. Where they are not in synch is the start times.

I want to use these tracks to build Vegas projects ao I need to align the tracks to play with each track comming in at the right time. From what I see I can slide the tracks along the timeline until everything sounds right to my ear. In fact I've already done this with one song and it took a long time and was frustrating. I was wondering if anyone knew a more exact approach to this problem?

make sure your "snap to grid" is off. Even with that off it can be hard to sometimes get eveyrthing just right it seems. I know when I have tried to allign certain video events with movements in the audio track it is someitme hard to pin point the exact moment. I use ACID to compose alot of my musical tracks. It seems to me I have a little more control in acid, but it oculd just be because thats what I started in.
