Aligning tracks

I recorded multiple audio tracks for my video project and did a clap so I could align them in Vegas (Pro 8).

I might eventually get pluraleyes, sounds like it's awesome, but in the meantime I just want to align the tracks manually.

I have them less than 1/4 second apart but the perfectionist in me wants to get them more exact since I can see the sound wave not quite lined up.

When I try to move one track or the other at that fine of a zoom level, they jump about 1 sec as if they are snapping to pre-set distances. This happens whether I enable snapping or not.

Does Vegas allow finer moving to align the tracks, or is that it?

You need to disable Quantize to frames - there should be an icon above the timeline to toggle this on or off. If not Options > Customize Toolbar > Quantize to Frames > Add.

Once you've got them perfectly aligned, switch Quantize back on - needs to be for videp editing.

I used Plural Eyes trial and it worked well, but it took a while, and as I only do muliti camera once or twice a year I decided to stick with manual, which is faster if you don't have too many stop/starts with cameras.

If you zoom in on the time line and turn off quantize to frames (alt-f8) you can move in very fine increments. I would suggest leaving quantize to frames on unless working with audio.

Awesome, I thought it was something that simple. Exactly what I needed too. I didn't have the icon on my toolbar so I added it. I will leave it enabled except when adjusting.

Another case for me where not knowing what something is called made it hard to search for. Thanks for the quick and accurate replies!

Here's a tip.
Once you get them aligned RClick each file in turn and select Open in Trimmer. There, without moving the cursor hit the M key to add a marker. If you like label it Sync.

Now you have an easy to see visual reference that your files are still in sync.
