All I want to do is make a movie

As a wedding gift, I recorded my sister-in-law's wedding and proposed to make a DVD for them.

Vegas Movie Studio HD 9.0

After completing the design, I click on "make movie", I select certain options to bring the memory down to 4.99 GB (movie length 21min, DVD size 8.5GB) where-after it says the CDR space is too small or I should change my rendering options. Can anyone help with this? I can only select OK...

Problem 2 - After changing the settings to make the same movie 400MB, it then starts rendering BUT always after 5min makes no further progress or just freezes.

PLEASE HELP...

What can I do?

You cannot burn a DVD onto CDR media.

Understood...

Do you have a solution for my problem nr 2?

You would have to provide some basic details:
-- System specs
-- Source media properties
-- Project Properties
-- Render Properties

There are interactive tutorials that come with your program as well as many resources on the internet, and by using the forum Search feature.

I also have a tutorial here explaining some of the most basic terminology. Best of luck.

System - Intel(r). Core (TM) i3 CPU M330@2.13 GHz 2.13 available
Ram: 3 GB
32 bit
Source media - AVCHD
Project - Video - Template: NTSC DV (720x480 29.970 fps)
Pixel aspect ratio 0.9091
Audio - Sample rate 44 100 Hz
Bit Depth 16

I'm not 100% sure where to get the rendering settings...

Does this help?

With AVCHD source, you will want to download the trial version of VMS 11 and see if that solves your issue.

Your render settings are found under File->Render As. Using the Make Movie button is not the best way, but you can still find your render properties from there. You should render to compliant MPEG-2 DVD video if you are making a DVD. Like I said, lots of directions here and on the internet.

I'm little help as I'm a neophyte at this too.

But...I have been going with 'render as' and I'm currently rendering my project as MPG-1 per previous suggestions and it worked on my last trial burn.
Whether this is preferable render format I'm not sure.
From there I bring it into DVD Architect and burn DVD.

EDIT: My current original music anthology is 1:35 and will take just less than two hours as it appears at this moment.
I will be using a double layer DVD per previous suggestion here.
I'm also on 9.0b Platinum Pack.

Hope that helps a bit.

Carry on....

You create an MPEG1 before you burn to a DVD?

I'm not sure that's such a good idea. MPEG1s are an old format, low-quality video file. Down-stepping to MPEG1 will significantly destroy the quality of your video.

If you're going to burn a DVD, why not output a DVD-quality MPEG2 for DVD Architect?

Steve's world....

Yes....that MPG1 rendering was recommended to me here if I recall correctly.

But....you have been very helpful here so I will go with your recommendation of MPEG2.

EDIT: I'm doing an MPG2 render now and just noticed the default template notes 'DVD Architect'.
I plan on grasping all this before I become and entry in the obits!

Many thanks for chiming in.

Carry on.....
