ALT + Z - all time bug in all versions in Vegas Pro (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

marcinzm wrote on 8/28/2018, 10:31 AM

Hello Magix developers!

I have been reporting this bug 4th-5th times before to Magix developers, but nobody did with this anything.

All versions of Vegas Pro have big defect for all users who have Vegas Pro (every version) in Poland.

Here is the bug explanation:

Polish language has their own alphabeat. One of the letters are ż and Ż letters which Polish users type by pressing:

right ALT + z (we get ż small letter)

and

shift right ALT + z (we get Ż big letter).

Unfortunately when we open Titles & Text and (Legacy) Text editors, we are not able to achieve these Polish letters by pressing above shurtcuts.

alt + Z shortcut reopen these editors and removes the text previously typed/written.

I tried to manualy edit this shurtcut going to Options->Custimize Keyboard->search for right alt + Z. I get Shift + Alt + Z (TrackView.Track.ToggleGroupMate) as a result. I replaced Shift + Alt + Z for Shift + Alt + F, but these Text editors still remember this alt + Z shurtcut and reopen Text editors and removes the text previously typed/written.

I prayed to God and I thought that this big bug for all Polish users will be fixed at last, but nobody can listen to me.

Dear Magix Developers, please be so kind and fix this bug, I can be your tester, because I am also a IT developer with 15 years experience.

Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee fixxxxxxxxxxxx it!

Can you achieve this by inserting ASCI characters -- ALT plus the character number? Haven't tried this but it might work.

marcinzm wrote on 8/29/2018, 2:07 AM

I have just tried alt + character number. I was forced to figure out what character number I should type, because Vegas Pro has inside built different ASCII language keyboard than mine.

And It works.

alt + 379 gives me Ż

alt + 380 gives me ż

Thank you JackW for quick and good idea. This is a workaround solution, but not the ideal, but if we don`t get what we like, we like what we get :)

Hello, Marcin. I’m Slovak, so I use diacritics, too. In cases like this, I just type my text in Notepad++ (not to be confused with Microsoft Notepad, which is worthless), then select it and copy & paste it to wherever I need it.

Red Prince - I did the same till now. Typing the text into Notepad++, then copy & paste into Vegas Pro is frustrating. When we edit big projects we have to wait while switching between Notepad++ and Vegas Pro. I hope you know what I mean. Using ASCII codes will automate it and I will not have to wait while typing, because there will be no context switching.

Yes, I do know what you mean. Occasionally I even create an entire sentence in Windows Character Map, and just copy and paste straight from there. So it can be quite frustrating.

Any major project, such as Vegas Pro, really should allow the user to configure every single keyboard shortcut simply because there are so many languages and so many keyboard layouts that it would be a major achievement to produce a complete set of keyboard shortcuts that does not conflict with at least one national keyboard layout used somewhere on this planet.

Would it be possible to write a script that would do this for you for the two zeds, perhaps something that could be mapped to the keyboard?

Any decent gaming keyboard (or even mouse) has extra programmable keys which can hold character strings, and even time spacing between keypresses. It is very useful. I even used it to spit out my full email with a single keypress, very handy to log on stuff, and mapped various window layouts for Vegas Pro

Bitman, can you do a test for me? Could you be so kind and try to apply ASCII code: ALT 380 by pressing previously recorded key macro in your keyboard. When I press ALT 380 in notepad I get: "{" sign, but when I press the same key combination in Vegas Pro 16 title editor I get my lovely: "ż" letter.

I see that Vegas Pro 16 has their own keyboard which is impossible to modify vs the keyboard I have in my Windows 10 Home system. As you can see these language keyboard are completely different.

That`s why I am not sure that key combination ALT 380 in gaming keyboard or gaming mouse will give me "ż" letter, because I am not sure if mouse drivers/software will use Vegas Pro 16 keyboard or maybe Windows 10 Home keyboard.

I will try tonight, maybe with some french accent ascii shortcut as I do not have polish installed as keyboard nor windows language. I have a qwerty keyboard which is a bit exceptional in Belgium, as most have azerty with the french accent è ç etc... stuff. I have qwerty at work and do not like to switch keyboard layout at home!

@marcinzm Good news, I have a G910 Logitech keyboard and I programmed ALT 139 on one of the extra "G" keys (gives the Lower case i with diaeresis ï). This can be used in Vegas 16 legacy and protype text editor with a simple keypress.

Now you may ask please try the Polish Ż, but I cannot, reason for it is that the ASCII character set I have belongs to Code page 850 (Latin-1 - Western European languages) and in the Extended character set (128 - 255) of this code page there is no Polish Ż. You probably have Code page 852 (Latin-2 - Central European languages), for example if you try ALT 139 you will get a Lower case o with double acute and not the ï (Lower case i with diaeresis)

For those who have issues with ALT + the ASCII number, you need to use the numeric keypad.

By the way ALT 379 gives me { and not Ż for the same reasons since I have code page 850

Seriously? Do you have Windows? If so, you have Character Map. In that, you can pick any character set, then click on any letter, copy it and paste it anywhere. Such as Żż from the Windows: Central Europe set, or אב from the Hebrew set, or ☺♪ from the Unicode set, and you don’t even need to use the Alt key. ↔

Thank you bitman for your test.

I have good news. I was coressponding via email and phone with Modecom.com company which is producer of gaming mouses. I have tested two gaming mouses Modecom GMX5 Beast and Modecom GMX4 Plus. When the Modecom employee typed ALT + any 3 digit number (i.e. alt 100), he received "a100" in notepad in the GMX5 gaming mouse and "d" sign in GMX4 Plus. I only wanted to know if gaming mouse will recognize ASCII code.
That`s why I have purchased GMX Plus gaming mouse. I am sure that it will be working well with typing alt 379 and alt 380 in my cases, because typing these ASCII codes from my keyboard works well in Vegas Pro 16 Title Editors.

GMX5 Beast mouses have bad drivers in my opinion, because it cannot recognize alt key in proper way.

I am 42. I have been creating videos since 2009 (the date when my first daughter was born in). My first video software was Pinnacle, next one was Sony Vegas 8 (I am not sure if remember it correctly). I am also a developer and wedding movie operator and editor. For example: I have created an Android app which let me control Vegas Pro rendering progress level on Android smartphone. I created it for fun, because I also love programming. I also created my own plugin for Audio To Text feature specified usage from Vegas Pro 19. I created proxy creation plugin which uses multiple GPU threads (maximum 3) to create proxy files for Vegas Pro. I also written many others plugin/softwares which enhance my video editing, also wedding editing.
