Always Renders a 4GB file

My daughter is using Vegas Pro 9. Her clip content is from her Canon: 96kbps in AVI format.

The project is 0h 3m 34s in length. "Render As" using AVI produces a 4.2 GB file. This looks suspiciously like the size of a DVD. Many of the render choices produce a similarly large file.

Is there a parameter which must be set in order to just render the 3:34 project?

Using WMV at 256 kbps the file is 6.5MB which is more tolerable. (Why 256kbps? There are titles and stills which are higher quality than her Canon's video and she wishes to retain as much of this quality as possible.)

Thanks in advance.

What is her final product? DVD, WEB, Computer?

Sounds like she is rendering to an uncompressed AVI.

File size is directly related to the encoding bitrate. Higher birtate = higher quality = larger file.

4.2 GB is about right for an uncompressed file.
Render to a compressed video format for smaller results.
