Am I layering my video correctly?

I'm editing an interview done with one camera. I taped the interviewer separately asking the questions and nodding his head and smiling periodically. I then shot the interview over the shoulder of the interviewer; I'm now editing this to make it look like it was done with two cameras. My question is; when I have a shot of the interviewer nodding and smiling and there is no audio with these shots, is it okay just to drop the shot over the top of the interview event creating a transition? It does work but I want to make sure I'm doing it the right way. Thanks

If it works, it works! What you're doing is probably the simplest method. You could use two separate tracks with the interviewer's shots dropped onto a track above the interviewee track if you wanted more control over transitions, but it's probably not necessary.
