AMD 3200 64 bit Rendering Proc Speed

Hey, I'm in the market for a new computer for my video processing and was wondering if anyone knew if the new 64 bit instruction set, as found for example in the AMD 3200 chipset, will improve the Movie Studio rendering process speed?? Is it overkill?? And does Windows XP support this processor/chipset yet??
Thanks

As far as I know, there are no programs -- or operating systems (including Mac OSX!) -- that supports the 64-bit PC processor.

That doesn't mean that it isn't a great processor, one that may ultimately prove more powerful than its competitors. But no software is going to take full advantage of the technology yet. And that 3200 designation is AMD's way of implying that its processing power is equivalent to a Pentium 4 running at 3.2 ghz.

I believe Microsoft now has a trial Win XP Professional X64 Edition for downloading.

If I understand the inner workings of VSM\Vegas, it does not take advantage of 64 bit Processor or even the Hyperthreading feature of the newer P4s
The Win XP O/S is still 32 bit.
Other software like ULEAD VS claim that the HT feature allows to 10~15% faster. Just some input.

Thanks - I saw at Comp USA that both HP and Compaq have the 3200 and 3400 in cases running XP but they wouldn't say what the performance improvement would be...ultimately we may have to look to Sony to take advantage of this processor in their SW.

Thanks for the input, lets hope Sony is working on an update and will have a patch in the future that makes good use of the new processor....ned to improve that rendering speed several fold.

Go over to the audio forum. Hulk has posted a link to a profiling projects, both an audio only one and a video and audio project. He has a webpage where he posts the results. The P4EE models and the Athlon64s have very similar performance results. The AMD system will probably be much more cost effective though.
