OpenCL/GL are open source code, CUDA is not; basically a matter of cost. The other issue is CUDA is not necessarily backwards compatible; if NVIDIA feels like it, architecture will change.

I agree with you on the differences of OpenCL vs CUDA... I'm still sorting out which AMD card to go with... Any comments thaton the Radeon 7970? Do AMD cards typically run hotter than Nvidia cards? I have read several comments around that being an issue (my 6970 runs almost 20 degrees hotter than my gtx-660ti all around)

I wouldn't buy it. As mentioned earlier, R9 290/290X is the minimum because it's already PCIe 3.0 in case you upgrade your PC.

Looks like I have to hold out for awhile then until card prices fall back to normal... Bummer...
