I am currently using the R9 290 in my system with driver 14.4.; haven't had luck later ones but I also haven't tested the latest. There are no settings I am aware of that would make any difference with regards to VP13 performance.

I have a single 290 in my system. I was running an older version of the driver (not sure which one), and recklessly upgraded to Catalyst version 15.7 in the middle of a big project. (Do I hear shrieking in the background?) However, all is well, and it is my impression that things are better with Vegas under 15.7. I see quite a bit of GPU usage with various render templates that I don't remember from before.

I was also surprised to see CPU usage as high as 90% when frameserving to TMPGENC mastering works, which in turn was rendering to Mpeg2, from Canon 5D high bitrate files (125 Mbps). I sure don't remember that from before, either. The MXF files from my Canon XF300 still run the CPU at 20% under the same scenario.

I have been running my 290X with an old driver 14 xx for a long time and just last week I tried the AMD 15.6 beta and all good. I am happy with it.

There are two apps I had issues with different driver versions; NeatVideo and AAV Colorlab. NeatVideo would either hang up VP13 or behave badly and AAV Colorlab would crash VP13 completely. I will give the latest driver a go when I got the time for it.
