An editing system for VV4 on a limited budget? Help! !

BEFORE YOU READ THIS...PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT THIS IS INTENTED TO BE A SYSTEM THAT YOU WOULD BUILD FROM SCRATCH...NOT AN UPGRADE...YOU WOULD
ONLY HAVE YOUR "OS" (XP Pro), AND A MONITOR...I'M LOOKING FOR SPECIFICS WITH REGARD TO EACH COMPONENT...Motherboar...CPU...Memory...Hard Drives...etc...

Remember, you're starting from scratch. With cost being the main factor, let's say that you had between $1,250.00, and $1,750.00 to spend, and already have a monitor, and OS. (XP Pro) So...you've got VV4, XP Pro, and a Monitor, now, what would you build, within the price spread above?

As always, many, many thanks for any help, and input!

Using all caps is considered SHOUTING and rude. Further, believe it or not most people when replying are addressing the wider audience reading the forum posts and unless they specifically say so are NOT just addressing the person posing the question. This way more people are helped (at least I hope so) by broadening out the topic at times. For example, my responses on building a new/better system. I know a lot of people want to upgrade. Cheaply. While you can start from scratch, another option is to gut a previous system. Another option is to have someone build you one based on you specific needs.

And Tony... and now I am addressing you directly... it doesn't make a lot of sense to shout at people you've asked for help that clearly know more about the topic than you do. In other words, you don't jump up and down and say help me, help me, then upon receving help instread of being thankful you instead appear angry. Remeber NOBODY has to help you. And those that show an attitute, frequently get skipped over. Much easier to "help" someone that appreciates it by going to the next thread.

I dont mean to sound rude, but arent you asking the same question over and over again except that you keep on rephrasing the question?

In answer to your question(s) though,

AMD/ INtel- Both are good processors companies, find the fastest you can get for your price range. Dual system dont do double the render speed, rather they allow you to offload other tasks on the 2nd Cpu. There is always going to be something better or faster. So dont think youve lost out buying 2.8ghz when 3.whatever is around the corner.

Motherboards- Most important, Supermicro/ Gigabyte/ and some Abit motherboards are nice. Run google on a board you might be interested in to find reviews. Write down what features you need (ie. Onboard sound, video, Lan) Serial ATA hasnt come into the mainstream affordablility price point yet so i might exclude that from my list.

Power Supply- Important- Get one that is quiet and has enough power to drive your peripherals. 500watts might be overkill for some, but it give me piece of mind. ThermalTake has some pretty interesting ones.

SOund Card- If not on motherboard, buy a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz or recent version. Step up from that Echo Mia/ or Maudio 2496. You would have to buy Reference Monitors (speakers) if you buy the last two cards.

Hard Drives- 1 system, 1 Capture, 1 Backup. this is not set in stone. 20/40gb for system. 60-160 for capture. Backup on either DVD-ram, or another HD. Raid is not important for most intents and purposes. 2mb/8mb no noticeable differnece in the NLE world. 8mb might give you a piece of mind though.

Video Cards- Vegas doesnt care. Matrox are recommended for 2d work (which is most Video Work) I use a Quadro2 because i do some 3d stuff. Again not set in stone. I have an onboard ATI Rage Pro 8mb that i use on an old computer. WOrks wonderfully.

RAM- Mushkin, Geil, and Corsair have carved out their market share with regards to quality. You may pay more for these brands. If not from them Samsung and Crucial make quality ram. CHECK CAS LATENCY. Most important for ram. Dont know if you will be using RDRAM, DDRAM, or whatever. But run a google search for "CAS LATENCY" and whatever type you choose to buy. DO NOT SKIMP ON QUALITY RAM. Find the right ram type for whatever board you decide on. There is always going to be faster ram down the road but buy something that hits your price point and is at a speed that has been around for awhile (ie 333mhz DDR)

1394 Card- Any Texas INstrument Chipset.

OS- WIndows XP Home or Pro. Pro has more admin features plus DUal processor capability.

**Buy quality ram, power supply, and motherboard** Ive given a few names of companies buy always run a search if you are not sure.

Case and Fans- Personal Preference. Make sure its got good airflow and easy to open. I like lager cases because of my big clumsy hands. 3 open 5 1/2 is a good place to start. Depends on your drive needs.

DVD+-R You can buy Pioneer/ Sony/ or Toshiba. What are your needs DVD-r for compatibility or DVD+R for future compatibility. Again Very confusing even for myself. I choose Pioneer because ive had good luck with them in the past and they tend to get decent reviews.

CDRW if you dont by a DVDRW. I choose Liteon because of recommendations. I been very happy with the performance and price.

I didnt give you certain speeds of the following because computers change almost overnight. I generally stay 1 or 2 speeds behind whatever the top speed is (ie. 3.06ghz P4....i own a 2.8ghz Xeon) (RDRAM 800mhz.....i own 400mhz RDRAM). Everything else just seems like details once you buy a quality Motherboard and PSU.
