Please help. I installed a new windows and changed the name of the disks. now I can't open the finished project. This message appears. "An error occurred while loading the project file. An error occurred while reading the project file."
If you've changed the names of the disks, the .veg file for your project will not be able to find the project's media, VFX, etc, etc especially if Vegas Pro is no longer installed on the same drive name (usually the 'C' drive) as it was when the project was last saved. If this is the case, it would be a good idea to return the drives to their original names.
Usually, Vegas Pro will ask you to nominate the new location of media IF it is only the media that has moved folders or drives.
Does vegas save hidden files of the same project in addition to project files?
It's hard to tell, but probably. If you go to Windows Explorer (Hidden Files in View needs to be checked), R click on a .veg file and then select Open With / Choose Another App / More Apps (after scrolling down) and then choose Notepad (this is the Windows 11 process), you'll see on opening Notepad that the .veg coding is indecipherable - to me anyway.
Let 's hope that you haven't installed Windows and programs like Vegas Pro on anything other than the C drive because coding will likely ripple through to the registry. At least if Windows is still on the C drive but Vegas Pro has been installed on another drive, the easiest thing to do in that case would to uninstall Vegas Pro from the other drive and re-install it on the C drive. The forum has seen members reporting a range of problems from time-to-time over the years problems with Vegas Pro when it has been installed on a drive other than the C drive (where Windows OS is apparently on the C drive) - though those who do this do not seem to be many.
