Wow, sorry for the noob question, but I'm stumped and found an answer but don't understand why...
Things have been working fine, but I've done something strange I'm guessing with the various codecs I have, now when I try to start Sony Vega 6.0b and look at a preview or play a video I'm editing, I get this error message:
An error occured during playback: an invalid output device specified. Then when I click on the about box, the explanation is:
The playback device does not support the current output
The playback device does not exist
I can play things back fine with other players like the media player or the zoom player. I unstalled and reinstalled Sony
When I look to see what codecs the system is using it is using the MainConcept splitter which seems fine since it came from Sony and the Mainconcept MPEG2 video decoder. It is using the Cyberlink audio decoder from my DVD playback package, is that the problem?
I then searched the forums and found a post from 3 years ago http://www.sonymediasoftware.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?ForumID=12&MessageID=228837 that talks about this being an audio issue and indeed when I tried to save file properties, I get all kind of invalid answers in the File/Properties/Audio where it wouldn't take any audio frequency or bit rate and kept saying invalid format for device.
Trolling down through the Options/Preferences/Audio Settings, I flipped from Windows Sound Mapper to Nvidia ASIO driver what ever that is and everything works fine. Any ideas why?
