All the Chinese were exited when the International Olympic Committee President Juan Antonio Samaranch announced that the IOC had awarded the 2008 Olympic games to Beijing. The IOC had confidence in Beijing hosting the Olympic games. Beijing¡¯s victory has proved once more that China, a just, progressive and strong country, enjoys broad respect and friendship in the international community. The Chinese government and people will go all out to support Beijing to turn the 2008 Olympic games into a grand event that will contribute to the development of Olympic sports, world peace and friendship of different peoples in the world.
We are proud of our country and our people, because the people who encouraged and supported us helped strengthen our bid. All Chinese are cheering for Beijing¡¯s victory, including 30 million Chinese overseas and 30 million returned overseas Chinese in this great land. For the last half-century, especially the last 20 years, numerous overseas Chinese, deeply patriotic, have done much for China. They not only have made outstanding accomplishments in their own fields, but also have made great contributions to China¡¯s opening to the world and international friendship.
As the modern Olympic movement enters the new millennium, China, the country with the longest history, takes the spotlight. This ancient country will display its mysterious and marvelous culture to the world; and the world will witness how this proud country achieves its national rejuvenation. With the upcoming entry into the World Trade Organization, China is ready to become a truly international country and to show a new, energetic image through its ongoing economic reforms. We have reason to believe that all the Chinese in the world will do their best to accelerate our economic growth and social progress.
Now there is great interest in the international community in traditional Chinese culture. We, the Experience Chinese History Organization Committee, consider this a duty to ourselves, to our committee, and to our nation as a whole: To let the world know about Chinese culture and let Chinese culture spread through the world, beginning next year, we will host a two-year festival in which participants will experience culture.

The Statement of the Experience Chinese History Festival Organization Committee
The world focused on China when the International Olympic Committee President, Juan Antonio Samaranch, announced that the IOC had awarded the 2008 Olympic games to Beijing. And many international societies turned their attention to traditional Chinese culture. To let the world know about Chinese culture, and let Chinese culture spread through the world, the State Ministry of Culture, in alliance with the State Bureau of Cultural Relics, the State Bureau of Tourism, the China Institute of Cultural Relics, the China People¡¯s Association for International Friendship, and the China National Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, will host a major event¡ªthe Experience Chinese History Culture Festival.
The Experience Chinese History Culture Festival is a series of public service cultural activities, which will take place over the next 3 years. We will choose 8 places from 27 World Culture Heritage Sites all over China. These 8 places are the most representative of traditional Chinese culture. We will hold different programs in these places to showcase ancient Chinese culture. There will also be an exhibition that will tour many famous cities around the world.
With our motto ¡°People¡¯s Olympics¡± and our goal to showcase traditional Chinese culture, we consider it a duty to ourselves, to our committee, and to our nation as a whole, to strive to improve our international status, to accelerate our social progress, and to enlarge culture exchange.
